What's the name for that subculture? Shoeheads or something?

It's my understanding that such a hobby and interest often becomes all-consuming and costs a dang fortune lol... if you really like them have fun, but it can get incredibly addicting.

If you just into collection athletic shoes then you are a sneakerhead.

Haven't bought any shoes in over two years and currently only wearing on pair all the time.

never will i ever understand how people can love shoes. they are literally chunks of leather and rubber that you strap to your feet to prevent them from getting hurt. anything "cool" about the them gets scuffed and/or covered in dirt within the first month. gonna be honest, ive been wearing strictly crocs for what has to be 11 years now. theyre light weight, durable, waterproof, and the foam material lasts forever.

but the way you describe it makes me think theres a hidden layer to your situation. i know that in many cases, compulsive shopping can be the result of loneliness or anxiety.

I'm pretty sure you have good point.  But a lot of people would buy a lot of useless stuff if they had $4K in disposable income in their bank.

I thought this was gonna be about shoeonhead.

$4K in the bank does not mean $4K in disposable income. that means you have $4000 overall, which is not a lot of money at all.

It actually is.  There are a lot of people that have less then $1K in the bank.  Also the average bank account balance in the USA 2011 was $5,923 so $4K is actually pretty close to that number.

Those are some nice sneakers. What are you favorites?

It's called a hobby. Deal with it like every other human.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Never been much into sneakers but that being said my favorite pair I ever owned was probably the original Nike Air Max.  I got them the first year they where released in 1987 it was the red, white and grey kind.
