Btw looks like FF7R Part 2 is destined for PS5 and will be built specifically to take advantage of the new hardware. No cross gen? :o

"Lighting and textures are the main adjustments for [Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade], but environmental effects such as fog have also been added to further improve the sense of presence and immersion in the world view. […] As for adaptive triggers, they are partially supported. However, in terms of using all of the features of PlayStation 5, please wait for the next game where we can start from scratch. ~ Tetsuya Nomura

People were kidding themselves if they thought the project was going to continue to include the PS4 going forward. It’s realistically a 10 years long project, if not more. Yet I see some people getting mad at Square Enix for moving on to the current gen with the project.

With how the scope of the story and gameplay opens up once you leave Midgar, I cannot fault the developers for not wanting the project to remain tethered to a console architecture that would become a headache to develop for in order to make their vision fully realized at the quality they want the project to be.

I was actually expecting cross gen due to SE looking how it can make the most money and shooting forward with development with calibrating for next gen. So targeting fall 2022 and simply using current working assets as they done in past FF sequels (X-2/XIII-2). Then they'd essentially port up to PS5 (4k/60fps/better textures & lighting). But its true that Part 2 will demand much more in terms of open areas, in the long term it may save them a fair amount of development cost by dropping PS4. Square also want the mainline series to be cutting edge. I've also been surprised by how quickly new gen software sales has overtaken last gen (at least at launch, Hitman for example), by the time it releases (fall 2022-2023) the market for PS4 software outside of Fifa & online service games will probably be dead.

PS dropped a bunch of VR trailers on their channel today:

Glad to see them continuing to support PSVR while we wait for #2.

Also, Narita Boy looks legit.

True, its kind expected. Square Enix likes to push the latest hardware and graphics with the mainline FF series. Nomura did say it will likely be a late 2021 / early 2022 title. I'd say some time in 2022.. and by that time there will easily be 20m+ PS5's out in the open. And these games sell very well, to say the least. Maybe this will give interest in Japan (for the PS5) a boost it needs.

But yeah I'm excited to see a publisher not afraid to move onto next gen. Part 1 already looks great, can't wait to see what they can do with much better hardware!

If Part 2 launches no later than early next year I would expect a PS4 version to be made as well and only part 3 be exclusive to gen 9.

Maybe. From his wording though it sounds like the game is made from scratch for PS5, but we'll see. Won't be a while until its shown anyway.. I'm guessing E3/SE or Sony conference next year or something like that.

@TallSilhouette

Nice. Out of all those VR games Doom 3 looks most interesting to me. Wonder if its the full game but tweaked for VR.

Fracked is where it's at.

Skiing, climbing, gunfights.

What more do you need from a VR game?

What I understood is when a game is made from scratch not that FFVIIR2 would be this game.

In preparation for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, I went back and got the two Platinum trophies I needed to complete the set. Played through Ratchet: Deadlocked and A Crack in time, and I gotta say, my memories of them were a little off. I thought Deadlocked was a WHOLE LOT more fun than I remembered, whereas A Crack in Time - once thought to be my favourite in the series - was a little disappointing.

Of course, a lot of that simply comes from some of the non-combat sections. The more I think about it the more I still love it, but my overall memories of the game was tainted. Kind of a shame, but then again replaying those two games it was like a totally fresh experience! I didn't remember, like ANY of those games aside from the announcers from Deadlocked and the clank puzzle sequences/Azimuth from A Crack in Time. so in essence, I got to play them both again for the first time and I gotta say I loved it!

My tier list is as follows:

S Tier:
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando

A Tier:
Ratchet & Clank PS4
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet: Deadlocked

B Tier:
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus
Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty
Ratchet & Clank PS2

C tier:
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault

N/A Tier: (Haven't played)
Secret Agent Clank
Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus
Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile

A Rift Apart is a sequel to Nexus (Into The Nexus), and NOT the reboot... right? If so then I REALLY need to catch up before I play it, lol. I've not played A Crack In Time or Nexus yet.. I don't even own the latter, and buying a copy may end up being expensive :o

Yes. For all intents and purposes the reboot is a self-contained side game. I really liked it and it was a lot of fun but you can avoid/ignore it if you're iun any way caring about continuity.

I'd recommend, if you're looking to prepare yourself: Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, A Crack in Time, Into the Nexus. Two full games, two side games. The story there is pretty consistent and fun throughout with a lot of carrying-over story beats and characters. the original trilogy/deadlocked is kind of its own thing, the future series is its own thing, and everything else is side content. I HOPE this creates a new trilogy or series on PS5, because after seeing how fun A Crack in Time is/was...well hot damn. imagine how good looking and feeling Rift Apart will be!

I personally liked Q-force/Full FRontal Assault as well as All 4 One and the PSP games (Size Matters/Secret Agent Clank), but you can skip all of them if you want. they're fun experiments (Co-op and tower defense, both fun, neither as good as the main games).

Oh I've played every game up to Tools of Destruction and then took a huge gap before playing the reboot... although I do own A Crack In Time too. What I'd need to play is Tools of Destruction as a refresher and go from there... t'would mean having to buy Quest For Booty and Nexus, although I THINK on the PS3 store if you buy Nexus digitally you get a copy of Quest For Booty too, or maybe that was just a limited time thing the last time I saw it.

There was a new trailer for Tales of Arise with mostly recycled footage at the Tales festival
