I'm using the great sword. Hard as fuck to actually land a proper heavy blow, but when it hits...when it hits, woooo boy it HITS.
I've never played a MH game prior to MHW, so I'm having a lot of fun with this one. I'm currently running through the vale as well.

I upgraded it 3 pr 4 steps and gave it a try, 780+ dmg dayyymmm. However that is for sure a Multiplayer weapon right, get other to lore in the monster and whack?

Mobility seems to go a long way in this game, so the Glaives jump mechanics is so useful its almost OP but the main reason I started using it was it requires you to hit certain spots on a monsters body to up certain buffs and I thought that mechanic would help me identify and strategize monsters better. I had no idea it would end up being so powerful when buffed and the ability to mount the monster on the fly...mhmm. delicious. Great balance between mobility, dmg and with a defense buff it and free for the tougher monsters its a great single player weapon but most of all is it FUN. I'd nearly wrote this game off s having stamina based souls combat until I tried it.

I've soloed a lot of the monsters so far, but it did require a whole lot of backbreaking farming to be geared sufficiently for that. If you predict some of the monster's movements, you can generally land heavy blows without much difficulty and combo further into some real damage.
I'm not doing Rathalos yet though I did try him a couple of times. Rathian is no longer a problem and I can generally solo her without much effort.

I played a MH entry for the Wii U and 3DS, but I got bored pretty fast. On the other hand I loved MHW and got through the story and killed all of the bosses aside from 1 or 2 optional bosses, which I am saving for later.

For MHW I use the Switch Axe. I use it because it is mostly in axe form but when you get an opening and switch to the super slow but powerful sword form and get off a juicy explosion it is just great. I played before they patched/buffed the unique Switch axe mount, where any move from the monster would just make you go flying off.

It has all the intricacies that one would want in a weapon. You got to git gud at rolling in both forms, range advantage/disadvantage of both forms, combos, buff usage, and lastly I of course love the aesthetics of the axe and the discharge.

I've only played the Monster Hunter World beta, but from that I'd already decided that it was my favourite game in the series... the gameplay feels so much better and there's more options available to me, the maps being fully open is a huge bonus too and they look amazing, and I don't know, it just sort of felt better in literally every department for me.

In the beta I ended up settling for hammers and bows as my main weapons, although felt like a badass with the Insect Glaive... and dual blades, which I've used in previous games, felt better to use somehow, lol... also having the glider mantle equipped, finding a high place to jump from and then dive bombing an enemy to knock it to the floor with a hammer feels so good!

The games I've played are; The original on PS2, Freedom 1 + 2 on PSP, 3 Ultimate on Wii U, and 4 Ultimate on 3DS... and yeah, based on my limited time with the beta of World, I already think it's the best game, and played as my favourite... I still don't actually own the game yet though, waiting until I've cleared some of my backlog up before committing to it since I can spend so many hours on them.

You should grab it. This is one seriously addicting nd satisfying game. To make that clear the Real fun and meat if the game only started for me around 20 hours in and it just keeps getting better.  It's nothing like the beta with the crappy 15 minute timers and the world all ties together nicely but if you enjoyed the beta, you'll love this. It's like destiny, Dark souls and Monster hunter had a threesome and spawned this but without any of the micro transaction and shady progression.

...oh and get Divinity OG sin already, dammit ,Bristow

I'll be buying it eventually, like I said, I just need to clear more games and find the time, since Monster Hunter games are quite a time sink, lol.

As for Divinity...  for fuck sake I've already bought it lol, leave me alone! :P

Whatcha think?Best Arpg ever. Right?

...  right!

I've not even thought about playing it yet, I only bought it a few weeks ago when a new sale started on the Playstation Store, lol. Wouldn't surprise me if I actually never get round to playing it either since it isn't exactly a priority game for me right now.

Ah cool. The way my last meeting with Zorah Maggy felt like it was the end and going into end game or post launch content. Good to know, thanks for the info

After Zorah comes High Rank, new monsters, Tempered, Arch Tempered, and Sieges.

I've been enjoying it a lot so far. I'm probably about 25-30hours in and overall, it just feels a lot like Monster Hunter (I was a bit worried that they would be straying away from what I loved about the series after the first trailer, but after playing it I can see those fears were unfounded).

That said, I don't find the improvements to really make much of a difference. I don't think the seamless world really does too much for me and in general, the increased focus on collecting and tracking I don't really enjoy. It is easy enough to look past, but I don't think it was a large improvement.

Beyond that, I've yet to really fight any new Monsters that really made their mark and provided memorable and interesting experiences. Additionally, I straight up dislike the Ancient Forest as a locale (too cluttered and claustrophobic) and the others I've experienced so far have been unremarkable. Haven't experienced too much of the Rotten Vale yet, but the first few quests haven't really left me impressed.

Overall, great game, but I think the improvements did little to impress me and the aspects I am looking at seem to be falling short of tri (which, admittedly is a high bar).

Oh, also I don't like how they changed the armors. The new system is easier than charms, but all my costumes make me look like a weirdo with all the mixing and matching because most perks are garbage.

I'm about 40% Long Sword, 40% Charge Blade, 10% Switch Axe...and 10% actually experimenting with new weapons and styles. Should be higher on that one but eh...I'm lazy.

Objectively, it's probably the best Monster Hunter I've played, as the QoL improvements and presentation updates were sorely needed, even if the monster variety seems a bit lacking in comparison to previous games. I also burned myself out on this one faster than usual, I think I'm at 90 hours and beat the XenoJ but don't really feel any motivation to go back to it. Maybe in six months I'll see what new content was added...*shrug*

The intrusive and unskippable story killed it for me along with the lack of content. Mechanically and gameplay wise it's the best in the series and a perfect  evolution of the formula but its my least played monster hunter by far. I'm hoping for an ultimate version that ditches the annoying story and adds in a ton of monsters but until that happens generations ultimate will be my go to MH
