Do people forget that Breath of the Wild was the only game Nintendo brought to E3 2016 and many people said they 'won' E3 that year? Again, quality over quantity; that is why I hold Sony and Nintendo in such high regard despite Microsoft's colossal wave of new games and reveals. I do think Microsoft had the show of the year (Strange since they're the only of the 3 console makers I don't much care for), but that doesn't mean Sony and Nintendo didn't also come out swinging. Again, it's a comparison of quantity vs quality, and I think the three were very similar overall in the end. |
Well, to be fair, Nintendo had stated beforehand that Zelda was going to be the only game they would show off at E3. So, people knew to temper their expectations before E3 even started. And because Breath of the Wild was THE game everyone was asking about for 2 years up to that point, when they finally showed it and it looked absolutely incredible and breath-taking (pun intended) people gave them the win because they had the sense and feeling that "this game may be the best one they've ever made."
As for this year, it could have helped if Nintendo had stated beforehand that "this Direct will focus heavily on Smash, there will be a few new games we will show off as well, but mostly Smash." Then that would have tempered some people's expectations like Sony did beforehand. I agree that those people who are giving 1s, 2s, and 3s out of 10 and calling this shit, a failure, bomb, etc. etc. need to calm down and take a chill pill because this was nowhere near that bad. But, I can understand where they are coming from.
