Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Sets April Sales Records For Software (Since 1995) Hardware (Since 2009)

Seems like Sony strategy of spreading AAA outside of Holidays keeps working like a charm.

So XB1 and Switch didn't do as bad in April as people made it out to be, PS4 just did REALLY REALLY good. Good to see such gargantuan numbers, console gaming is alive.

XB1 and Switch did ok, although people were expecting more for Switch.

God of War must be the expection to the rule then :P

I can't remember an AAA 1st party SP focused game that bombed for PS4...

Knack 2 isn't AAA, KZ was a launch title expected to sell low... besides that? Don't remember.

good news for the industry, and well deserved with great IPs.

The Order 1886, with 1.62m retail. Though for a new IP I wouldn't call that "bombing" necessarily, it's still over twice as much as Quantum Break on XBO.

Relevant chart I posted in the NPD thread last night:

Thanks for posting this chart.  Wow, what happened to the Wii in 2008?  I wouldn't have even thought they would sell that much due to normal supply limitations.

Order 1886? A good, but short, game :)

Predicted 15+ million lifetime-sales for God of War:

Good remembering, although 1.62M isn't totally bad I would say it is lower than expectation.

I don't believe Shadowfall fell short of commercial expectations, however, selling more than 3 and exactly what 2 did.

Already got that remembered in the previous answer... although I wouldn't say it is a bomb, just a low seller.

And KZ, I just remembered the critical reception on VGC, never checked the sales, so my fault.

Two remembered before you =p

But yes I liked the game, although the price was higher.

Microsoft did it too with Sea of Thieves and it worked for them as well. It sold 2 million in a week. If it were a good game it would've been massive.

Yep, SoT certainly have gained more limelight than if it launched near Holiday (but from what I remember it had 2M playing not buying).

I'd say it bombed. Did not set out to do what was intended. I don't know what the numeric expectation was, but one can easily deduce that it did not succeed.

That it didn't succeed there is no question. And I also have no problem with you assuming it bombed even more when we consider that Sony didn't even requested more games from them.
