I suspect once the Octo Expansion is out it'll be a much easier win for Splatoon 2 in my mind, simply because I'm primarily a single player gamer, and the expansion's 80+ levels should give it a massive advantage over the original in terms of single player content.

Well I'd say Splatoon 2 already has a pretty decent advantage over the first game, considering it has 27 out of 27 better levels, and 4 out of 5 better bosses.

I found the levels to be pretty equal in quality between them, Splat2 simply had more.

I don't think they were even remotely comparable, Splatoon 1's levels were quite basic and straightforward, they didn't excite me even on the first time, whereas Splatoon 2's levels are filled with interesting ideas and use different weapons in loads of cool ways.

They were both pretty basic; each level introduced an idea and then riffed on it in various ways.

the Previews for the Octo Expansion are really promising.

As someone who put well over 200 hours into both versions, I would say Splatoon 2 easily. The mechanics are similar enough, so at that point it comes down to which game has more content. Splatoon 2 had as much content as Splatoon did at launch (minus maps), plus a hoard mode and more fleshed out single player.

The levels do indeed look excellent so far. 80+ levels of this calibre should itself outweigh Splatoon 1's campaign.

I always felt the Splatoon games were underrated as single player experiences.

This guy compares the two games' amount of input lag:

Basically Splatoon 2 has twice the input lag of Splatoon 1 (1/10th of a second instead of 1/20th) so it feels less responsive.

This has nothing to do with tick rate, though.

Yeah, I know. This is just another reason the first game feels better to play than the second.

The second one because they removed the absolutely broken specials of the first game (Kraken and the Bubble especially) and added Salmon Run, my favorite mode.

The Kraken was replaced with the Baller and the Bubbler with the Armor.
