Sooo we need more new IPs like Splatoon on consoles? Because that exploded in Japan. |
Sony doesn't seem to be interested, and they just don't want to bother with Japan first party wise anymore

What other online shooter was on the Wii U to compete with Splatoon?

There was call of duty. But I guess what you are trying to say is that for a new IP to explode (like splatoon) it needs to stand out on the library of games on the console.
Splatoon is a very different game compared to the recent shooters we get. Good job on Nintendo for doing something different, and the reward for it was great!
It also became a huge surprise to almost everyone on how successful it did on a failed console.

They could have done something with the PsVita....... but nope. I believe the best selling game on the Vita was Minecraft? (it did 1mil+ in Japan alone) but guess who owns that now?
Would love to see the sales of Minecraft on Switch, since I see it rank high in the Japanese eshop chart.

Good job, it seems that current Switch base line is 40-50k while for PS4 is 20-30k, looking forward to see what effect Labo will have on Switch sales.

Maybe Sony just hates online retailers or something. I can't physically look at every single physical store in Japan, but I can track online availability. And everything that I've seen in the past 2-3 weeks at least points to a shortage. Maybe it's just an online shortage? That would be something. For small info, I went to my local Bic Camera in Tokyo this morning because I want to buy a PS4. I didn't check the shelves behind the counter but they had tickets available to buy the 500G PS4 and the PS4 Pro. Nothing left for the 1T PS4 and another model (White one?). So not a complete shortage but definitely some issues, and it's not the first time lately that I see this.
By the way, while going out I saw one of the shelves behind the counters, no shortage for Switch there, the dedicated shelf seemed well furnished.
Thanks for that info. I believe both Bic Camera and Donki block foreigners from their website otherwise I'd definitely be tracking their online stock as well (if they have an online shop?)

You can try here for Bic Camera I think:

I don't think Donki has an online shop, and considering the mess Donki usually is, it's surely for the best!
Thanks! For whatever reason the one I tried to use for Bic Camera before kept giving me an error message.

Looks like everything is either backordered or completely sold out here as well.
