This game would have fared better if it was priced lower. I would say no more than $30 since its so barebone. If they do add the good content later, then charge for the other half then.
I dont see the point in these games as services costing $60 out the gate. I would rather they be super cheap, like free to $10, then with each content pack charge a small amount, like $5. They can do that for years. Would certainly review better.

That's the point, though.  They want to steer you into the subscription rather than the one-time purchase.  If the game cost $30, people might just buy it outright.  At $60, however, it leads people to believe that the clear value is the subscription.

That's really smart on their part

back to 67 we go! Polygon - 65

Sea of Thieves has the foundation of an incredible experience. It is a true pirate game that simulates the experience of piracy perfectly. And yet, after those first few jaw-dropping hours, you’re going to start feeling less like Blackbeard and more like Blackbeard’s accountant.

Might be smart .Just hope it dosent bite them in the ass later .

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

If they can get gamepass to profit they will make more in the long run off of the whole operation than they ever would with exclusives. Because of the change of economics, helm games would be judged by how they keep traffic going and subscriptions running. The netflix model will force them to have to increase their quality and justify the yearly subscription.

his philosophy is that "the developers are only as good as their last release"(paraphrasing). Its obviously a very flawed philosophy because if studios were shut down after one bad outing, so many great games we know and love wouldn't exist.

I’m not condoning Rare shutting down, but is this Rare’s first bad game? What else have they made recently? I think their most recent releases were Kinect games, so that may be unfair to judge. What was the last non-Kinectgame made by Rare that was good?

Viva pinanata was pretty good, tbh. And also rare replay, but I see why that wouldn't count.

Besides, the first two Kinect sports games sold very well as well.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Closing Rare would be a huge mistake. Ms already have enough problems and "credibility issues", lacks of exclusives and studios, for exemple. That said, closing one of their most beloved studios would cause more bad than good. Wrost case scenario, Rare will be hit by layoffs and will spend year working on smaller projects.

Ha. Viva Pinata is closing in on being 12 years old. I owned it, sunk about 30 hours into it, and didn't understand why it got the praise it got. I guess it just wasn't for me. I thought Kameo was pretty decent.

Really? I said 67, and it's at 67...

I think I've decided that I'll wait until this game is in the bargain bin. Definitely still want to play it as the concept is still appealing, but full price for a game this shallow is just bad, plus you HAVE to pay for Xbox Live Gold in order to play it. Not worth it.

And who knows, maybe later when it's cheaper, it'll also have more content.

Wait, that'll be when it also has microtransactions.

Wow. triple dipping for this game? High base cost, required Xbox Live Gold, plus microtransactions? Not sure if this is worth it at $20. Should be free.
