Forums - Microsoft - Sea of Thieves - Metacritic/Review thread - Metascore: XBO - 69 (69 reviews) PC - 68 (23 reviews)

This has always looked like an indie game to me. I can see why people would find it fun but the only reason that Microsoft have devoted so much marketing to it is because they have virtually nothing else as a benefit to promote GamePass. To be honest it looks like the sort of thing that Peter Molyneux would dream up ... and there’s a danger that this is exactly what it's going to become ...

Metacritic is 67....oh dear, bye bye Rare. Hopefully the employees can find work quickly.

Sounds like MS have overcharged at launch for a fundamentally good game.

In what I am sure is a completely unrelated note, more posts in the MS forums in one day than we've had in 6 months...

Let's be perfectly honest with all of this--had this not been a game developed by one of the Big 3, including all the E3 spotlight time that comes with such a distinction, then this thread would have about 10 posts right now, if it even existed at all.  While the naval battles looked nifty and the artstyle is nice, there was little else to set it apart from one of the dozens of F2P MMOs littering the internet.  The first video where they were on the island fighting skeletons effectively ended my interest in this game.

That's not to say that some people won't love it or that it can't find a niche.  It's just that I feel the game has earned more attention, both good and bad, than it has probably earned.

thought this game would get higher reviews

Whoever made that has just made my day.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

I would be legit salty if I paid $65 for this.

Luckily it’s basically free since I am already a GamePass subscriber for other games in the service.

This is legitimately the first RARE game that I am not going to purchase on console since the SNES days.
Which is a damn shame, had a ton of hope for it.

What? The games reviews haven't been good but so far the game has been pretty successful. Doubt Rare is going anywhere anytime soon.
