The game wasn’t actually available between beta sessions. He’s aged those 40 years without me even logging on; growing old thanks to the power of the cloud.

This is a joke post, right?

I mean, this has nothing to do with the cloud, most likely they are simply logging the time between game restarts and adapt to it with "ageing"....

I did not write the article.   This guy says its because of the Cloud he aged while offline.

So what happens if you throttle the internet bandwith while playing? Are the waves standing still at some point?

Is there any proof that all the wave physics are calculated on the game servers and not locally on the console or PC?

How much of the data traffic is for the wave calculations?

Was the aging of characters in Fable 1 & 2 also only possible due to the power of the cloud?

This whole “article” is just click bait for fanboys. He has no proof for any of his fantasies and the author is clearly known for XBox fanboy articles on this site. This article was posted by Septic on N4G, so it’s likely it’s written by him. Him and Vasto are the worst XBox fans on this site.

You have been reported. If you don't like my articles then don't click on it.

Only children and kids who have no idea about the cloud downplayed it. It exists and it works its just not implemented into our games yet aside from small things like Drivavatars. I am curious about this tech and hoping to see more.
Btw i just recently played the Beta and Sea Of Thieves has the best water effects i have ever seen in a video game. Well done to Rare for still impressing even after all these years.

Only gullible fanboys believe this tech can do complex physics calculations in real-time. Sea of Thieves water has nothing to do with the cloud, which you’ll be easily able to demonstrate if you just limit your bandwidth and nothing will change with the water.

They aren’t even able to transmit player positions lag free...it’s naive to believe complex destruction like in that fake Crackdown demo, or the water in SoT will be able to calculate that way.

Also...what does an aging character have to do with the cloud? The author had smoked some good stuff for sure.

For one i am not talking about the aging mechanic so let's make that clear.

Do you have proof that the Crackdown 3 demo is fake and that the cloud processing doesnt work?

Also regardless if Sea of Thieves uses the Cloud for its water effects does not take away the brilliance that Rare has achieved with there water in there game.

Oh and hi, not suprised to see you in an xbox article and not downplaying anything.

I was neither lying nor exaggerating. Just telling the objective truth.

Report without telling people that you have done so (or are doing so).

Ok, sorry.

The water truly looks amazing...but that’s not related to The Cloud.

Did you see any destruction in the last Crackdown trailer? We all know they used this locally PC calculated demo a few years back in order to make people believe the underpowered X1 would suddenly become more powerful. It was a marketing tool, nothing more.

Even if they did the calculation in the cloud, it would only work in a controlled, possibly lad-free environment. It’s a whole different story in the WWW with half the people not having a decent internet connection with drop outs, lag, bad ping times, low bandwidth etc. Every tech savvy person will tell you this is not going to work as shown in that demo in real life environments and net realities, and you’ll see once the game will (hopefully) be released later this year.

Feel free to quote me in your sig if I’m wrong.

I have went to the official Sea Of Thieves website to get some clarification on this.

Many of us on the website are neither kids or have no ideas about tech. Perhaps you could tell us about your knowledge and experience in the subject matter?

I'm not up on latest tech but I used to be a CCA, CCEA, MCP, MCSE, HP Cluster Engineer, so you know have some experience and can tell you, yes servers doing processing is great, but overall its not great for games, and not for games that can go offline. Are we actually any closer to the fabled Cloud that MS suggested many years ago, the x6 performance improvements. No.

So Sea of Thieves has the best water effects... not sure what that suggests other than they spent a lot of time doing tech on water. Not knocking the game, as I think its cool and I want it to be a success (which as I know someone working on the project I hope it is a success as I dont want another classic UK gaming company closed down).

But tell me this, at the moment all we have is drivatars... tell me what else has the power of the cloud done/shown... that is released to the public? That is not and cannot be done currently by competitors or normal MMO games?

So basically I and many other people are very up for a technical discussion, but calling people names is not really called for, unless you have something adult to back it up with.
