Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo finally tops its 1999 success at the 2018 AIAS DICE Awards - Zelda wins big

The AIAS DICE Awards are an annual event, the equivalent of the Academy Awards for video games.

These are the real deal, not some Spike TV farce, or some magazine or website's opinion of like 3-10 critics. These are awarded by The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) which is made up of over 33,000 members from across the video gaming industry. This is the Industry acknowledging the great work of their peers.

Not only has Nintendo cleaned up at the awards for the first time in almost 20 years, but they have finally topped their 1998 success. Nintendo won 10 of the 28 awards in 1999 with Ocarina of Time, Pokemon, Banjo Kazooie, and 1080 Snowboarding.

This year, Nintendo scored their biggest success yet in front of their peers when they snagged 11 of the 24 awards including the big 3 (all by Zelda).

Sweet!

Is the AIAS related to the AMPAS in any sort of way?

Magnificent job from Nintendo all around. The bribes worked.

More than deserved!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Damn, they tore up. They deserved every award they got, Congrats Nintendo!

Kicking ass and taking names.

who won the rest?

I'm excited of the rivalry between Mario and Zelda. It feels so good to see them so passionate again and both teams trying to beat eachothers. I'm sure they will try to beat eachother for the next game and I'm so here for it. The next Zelda has just so many possibilities.. wonder how they could top Odyssey tho.

I wonder how Nate felt. The guy looks humble as all heck.

Nintendo’s hardware designer, Genyo Takeda, has been awarded a place in the AIAS Hall of Fame; joining the likes of Shigeru Miyamoto who was indicated in 1998. He is Nintendo’s very first video game designer; who began working with the company in 1972, and designing Nintendo’s first video game, EVR Race.

He designed Star Tropics and Punchout, although his most noteworthy contributions came with his role as a hardware designer. His biggest win was the Wii, and the business philosophy around it of industry expansion.
