would I want 1? Yes Think about it, it would be a psp with a touch screen, with decent shoulder buttons and it would cost about the same as the PSP, uses flash drives and hardley any loading times

Wow, wow, wow... You're jumping way too fast. It doesn't even exist, so how do you know it would have touch screen? How do you know it would cost the same as the PSP? How would you know it would use flash drives, and have hardly any loading times?

Why isn't there one?

MS has it's hands full with the 360 and the Zune.  And time and time again, Nintendo has dominated any portable system that has come along; the PSP has been the most successful challenger to date.

Will there ever be one?

Highly unlikley.  If one did come along, it would probably be an extention of the Zune or along the lines of a PDA.  Then again, we all saw how well the Tapwave did.

Would you want one?

Doubtful.  But it's all about the features and software.

Would it be able to compete with the PSP and Nintendo DS?

If MS did decide the join the race, they could compete by integrating the system with the 360 and PC, leveraging their lineup of casual games, and brand recognition.  But it wouldn't dethrone Nintendo.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

Like Steve said, if MS goes for a handheld, it would be a Zune with games. It won't be a dedicated gaming device. The DS poses absolutely zero threat to Microsoft so they won't go after it.

I said the exact same thing 2 posts before him.

The Xbox handheld wouldn't neccessarily be a Zune with games. The iPod isn't consiered a video game system. Sony cell phones aren't considered to be video game systems. A true Xbox handheld would be mainly for video games, and nothing else, like the Nintendo DS, and somewhat like the Playstation Portable. The Xbox handheld would have its own library of games, each being either CD based, or cartridge based, and not just downloaded onto, like cell phones, and the iPod. Also, it would have the word "Xbox" written on it somewhere. And it would resemble a mini Xbox. It wouldn't be just a Zune with games. It would be a lot more than that.

Handhelds need to be durable. Microsoft+ History of durability= Not so much. M$ can bleed money for awhile, but being a cutter while suffering from anemia don't mix.

Microsoft will probably remain concerned for the vista/360/zune triangle for now.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

WOW if Xbox is in the portable system it will be the Xbox 0.360 :)

There is no reason for Microsoft to enter the handheld market.

The Xbox and Xbox 360 only exist to protect their monopoly on the OS market. This is really the only reason that Microsoft ever ventures outside of the software market(it's also the reason they fail every time). Neither the PSP or the DS is a threat to their OS monopoly, and they've already lost over 5 billion dollars on home consoles to date. The PSP has managed to carve out its own part of the market by not directly competing with the DS, and most people can't see a reason to have more than one handheld. A Microsoft handheld would have to directly compete with either the PSP or DS, either of which would be catastrophic.

The Zune will probably end up just like the MSN music store considering that most people don't even know what it is, and it wouldn't surprise me if the 360 or its predecessor ended up being Microsoft's last console.
