And I listed all the Japanese garbage DS games to show where exactly the DS's worldwide domination was coming from. 'Cause as I pointed out - it ain't coming from the US. But you seemed to want me to list the DS garbage currently on the US chart. Well theres not quite as many DS games right at the top of the charts like in Japan, so heres the garbage list from the US top 100 instead of top 35. Nintendogs Etrian Odyssey Spectrobes Brain Age Big Brain Academy Diddy Kong Racing DS Yoshi Island 2 Pokemon Ranger Cooking Mama Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords Kirby Squeak Squad

Sega made the Gamegear, Sony made the Playstation Portable, and Nintendo made the Gameboy and Nintendo DS. However, there is no Microsoft Xbox handheld.

Why isn't there one?

Will there ever be one?

Would you want one?

Would it be able to compete with the PSP and Nintendo DS?

If you consider Windows CE as their handheld..... They have already beaten PSP and DS flat!! lol!

Oh , and yes - "then go on to say that the DS isn't cool because Japanese girls are buying it" that does make it less cool. its called taste. and mine (26 year old american male) is radically different from japanese girls. its also different from american girls and my mom (big buyers of DS software) on just to say something in relation to the topic of this thread, a MS handheld = zune.

There are Japanese girls buying the Playstation Portable, and adult men buying the Nintendo DS. Done!

psp doing horribly? please. it is selling 1:2 against a company that used to have a monopoly. if that isnt amazing than tell me what is.

onto the topic. i dont want there to be an ms handheld because that would take sales from the psp and give nintendo back their monopoly. this is a market decision for me.

Well no, it's not doing horribly, but I think it should be pointed out that Nintendo could hardly care about the PSP entering the market since the DS is currently on track to being the best selling game system in history.  Also the "seperate market" argument that people like to use doesn't really work when the DS is getting games like Dragon Quest IX.

Again though, the PSP isn't doing HORRIBLE.  It's still not doing well at all.  It's not sold nearly enough games to be called a successful console and Sony is still in the red on it.  Still, it's a foothold in the handheld industry and they can continue in handheld games with their new user base.

On topic, it will never happen.  They don't care about the handheld market.  They have mentioned however in the past possibly porting some of their established franchises to the DS (Viva Pinata is the one I heard mentioned) in order to boost the sales of them and help decrease the user base of the PSP.

It's getting DQ9 because it's the most popular system in Japan, which is the only place DQ is popular. Nothing more, nothing less.

The DS does have a broader appeal, but it still skews towards kids(or more specifically, parents who want something to shut their kids up in the car or in the grocery store or bank) whereas Sony marketed the PSP more towards an older audience. This isn't to say that everyone who owns a DS is a kid or that everyone who owns a PSP is a 21-year-old man, but you get the point. Besides, both Sony and Nintendo stated that the two handhelds weren't meant to compete with each other, so Sony probably doesn't care anymore about the DS than Nintendo does about the PSP.

The PSP doesn't have the highest software attach ratio in the world, and of course, Sony is probably still in the red with it, but they probably expected that anyway. The same could be said about the Xbox(especially that last statement. they lost over 4 billion dollars), but everyone considers that it did well.

Ultimately, it's up to Sony to decide whether or not it's successful, but considering that they've entered a market that has been dominated by one company for 15 years and managed to sell well over 20 million systems at this point in time, I don't see how they couldn't.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

If the Nintendo DS is geared more towards children, and most of the people who play video games are adults, than how come the Nintendo DS is outselling the Playstation Portable 2:1?
