Gran Turismo: When I started the series I was a child who only played GTA and NFS games so when I got my hands on my first GT game on the PSP I was playing without using the brakes at all and never won a race. The cars also felt really heavy. I thought the gameplay was terrible and gave up. Gran Turismo 6 brought me back into the mould as I was looking for a content rich racing game on PS3 and marvelled at its huge content. I got it and got hooked and played it for two years. Now its my favourite racing game series and one of my favourite game series.

Similar story for me. I liked arcade racers so I gave GT3 a try on my PS2. I had no understanding of braking and apex, so I'd always struggle and eventually gave up. I gave the series another try with GT5 and have been hooked since.

That's probably the reason many people here don't like racing sims because they don't like using the brakes and learning the ins and outs of different cars and tracks. They are also the ones to complain that racing games are boring and lack depth. Racing sims have the deepest gameplay of any genre in gaming. It requires learning though but people just want to have fun the moment they get their hands on a controller.

If you think DmC is a great hack and slash, your definitely playing hack and slash wrong.

DmC is a good game. The combat is better than Devil May Cry 1 and 2 though not as good as 3 and 4. It still has the best platforming and camera in the series by far.

The combat and style gauge is certainly easier, which is exactly the detriment of the game to be a great hack/slash. Never mind no lock on or taunts.

Easier doesn't mean worse especially here. Devil May cry the first was difficult but mostly due to its archaic controls, horrible camera and platforming and lack of checkpoints. That kind of difficulty shouldn't be held in high regard. That game also had lots of issues with its reuse of levels and terrible puzzles.

DmC does have lock on in the PS4 version. I can understand someone disliking its characters, story and boss fights but the gameplay and level design were pretty good.

I'll give you the camera. How are the controls archaic in the least? Spamming one button for a practically endless combo I certainly will say is worse. Once apon a time it was about timing what attack when to max the style meter, now it's about spanning a single button mashing as fast as you can. That is playing a hack and slash completely wrong. As far as level design of the first game, sure. But you do know it was made as a Resident Evil game, was canned then repurposed to the grandfather of all hack and slash games.

Wipeout XL on PS1. There was one car with a machine gun. I think it was called the piranha. Rather than race the other cars, I sat in one place and blew everyone else up. When I was the only car left, I'd finish the track.

I was always first place because everybody else was dead.

I got a good laugh out of that one.

final fantasy 1 : ok remember this was way before internet, and i had the game, but not the manual. so i played that game, leveling my team, always putting them the best equipement that i could find, but i was trhinking, man that game is really tough. each cave i explored was taking me forever, and use tons and tons of potions. i had maybe half the game done, when a friend come over, saw me playing and told me : hey, you didnt equip your gear !

so yes, basically i've played have of final fantasy 1 without armor or weapon equiped because i didnt understood that you need to actually press the equip button for a gear to be in action...

Bioshock. i had the french version, however, i'm not french, i'm french canadian. Bioshock for pc had the controls on the keyboard locked, so you cannot change them. it's the standard WASD controls. however, in france, they use azerty keyboard, so the controls were ZQSD. But a french canadian keyboard is qwerty...

The real question is did you figure out how "awesome" the Black Belt is if you play this way?   Or perhaps you realized the Black Belt is not nearly as awesome once everyone else is wearing gear.

Team Fortress Classic. Teammate gets in my way so I blow him off the face of the earth to clear up space around me. Its wrong, but feels so right.
