Forums - Gaming Discussion - If Nintendo got more consistent third party support, would the third party sell more than the first party?

I don't know. They say people buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games but a lot of people didn't buy the WiiU or GameCube for Nintendo's offerings. And a lot of people are buying the Switch as their first Nintendo console.

There's about a 0% chance of that. Just look at the Wii U and the ridiculous attach rate of Mario Kart 8. How is any third party supposed to compete with that? Nintendo has a hugely dedicated fanbase that buys Nintendo consoles to mostly play Nintendo games, and I don't see that changing.

Never gonna happen because third party hasn't been good on nintendo for 4 generations now so people are not gonna buy a nintendo console to play them, and nintendo is not doing anything to change that.

What about releasing a system where 3rd party console titles can be played on the go instead of making a system which is basically a low-powered PS/Xbox ?

There is still a huge power gap, and it's why many third party games are not on switch. so nintendo really doesn't care to make life easy for third party's.

Are you talking about the Switch, the 3DS or the Vita? I can't tell

If every Nintendo system from this point forward got the exact same amount 3rd party support and games as Sony and Microsoft AND released at the same time, I still don't think so.
Third parties, Western ones to be exact, would still sell more on PlayStation and Xbox because those two platforms have made 3rd parties a much bigger part of their systems than Nintendo ever has, more-so Xbox than PlayStation, so the bulk of sales for FIFA/Call of Duty/NBA/Madden/GTA would still be on those systems, which considerably lowers the ceiling for sales of the Nintendo versions of those games.

Doesn't mean Nintendo fans don't want 'em though.

@quickrick: If power was a big deal for 3rd parties, Xbox and Gamecube would have had greater third. party support.

Bethesda was right to bet on the success of the Switch and their efforts will eventually pay off. So will be japanese 3rd party companies. And Ubisoft is about to jump on the Switch train. Big western companies will eventually come

3rd parties couldn't even compete with Kinect Adventures on X360. Competing against Nintendo is near impossible.

you are talking about a generation where ps2  had  most third party support exclusive. playstation clearly owned the home market  back then, it sold like 155 million compared to 45 million for xb/GC, and even then xbox being powerful and easy to develop for gave it decent thirdparty support, Microsoft continued with that strategy, and eventually got all major third party's on board, while nintendo went blue ocean and wasn't really interested in competing with ps3/360. the hardware wasn't made to get third party support, and thats why it mostly didnt, despite selling like crazy, and being the market leader.
