Well, now we finally know why Nintendo expects to sell so many Switchs this year. This thing is going to be MASSIVE. Congrats to Nintendo for successfully winning both the core fans and now the casuals back over with one system.

Does this product capture the casual market, though? It looks like it's geared at kids and their parents, a market Nintendo and the Switch already focus on, not necessarily all the other age groups and demographics that would constitute the casual market and helped make the Wii and DS wildly successful.

There is also some hilarity in Nintendo basically being able to bundle some extra cardboard with a Switch and basically be able to have a Nintendo Switch Labo bundle, since the game can be pre-installed onto the Switch flash memory.

Anecdotal, but I'm seeing buzz for this among my non-gamer friends in a way that I haven't since Wii Sports/Fit, primarily among parents of young kids. These are people who've never heard of Metroid or Bayonetta, yet are fascinated by the concept of Labo.

Well, throughout the first 10 months, Nintendo has primarily marketed the Switch towards teenagers and young adults who are dedicated gamers and/or diehard Nintendo fans. No kid and his/her parents would be too interested in Breath of the Wild (except for my boss, who is a diehard Zelda fan, and so are his kids because of him.) I mean, games like Fire Emblem Warriors, Pokken DX, DOOM, Skyrim, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 aren't games that I or a lot of gamers would associate with the "kids and their parents" crowd. Even Super Mario Odyssey was pushed and marketed more towards dedicated gamers and Nintendo fans who grew up with 64 and Sunshine than the new generation of kids.
This is really the first time since the Switch came out where Nintendo is pushing a new game that they made and are marketing specifically for kids... and kids at heart.

As for the casual market, that's what their mobile games are for.

.... er...what?

Hmm, pie.

Ok, now I'm REALLY interested to see how this does in preorders between now and release.

Well.. maybe nintendo will launch some commercial of nintendo labo during super bowl, if that happen I think it can create a big hype with non-gamers.

Seems aimed at kids, don't think the Superbowl is the right place to market it.

Probably will be a lot of ads on cartoon channels and parenting shows.

Do you have any idea how many families, parents, and kids watch the Super Bowl? Farrrr greater than the most popular shows of Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon combined. It's constantly the most viewed television event in the United States, year in and year out and it's not even close.

There's a reason companies spend millions upon millions to get their ads aired during the commercials for that damn football game. If Labo really starts to light up the pre-order rankings of retailers like Amazon, like it is doing right now and builds a lot of buzz and momentum, Nintendo would be foolish not to capitalize on that and expose their next big thing for the hottest system on the U.S. market, during the biggest U.S. television event of the year.

I love it. I'm sure my son will also love it. That's what I call creative. Fuck Teraflops, I want that shit right there!
