Forums - Sports Discussion - Wrestling: Chris Jericho earns first 5-Star Match after nearly 30 years in the business

http://whatculture.com/wwe/chris-jericho-vs-kenny-omega-awarded-5-star-rating-from-dave-meltzer

The guy is now 47 years old and has had the best wrestling match of his career according to Dave Meltzer. Dave Meltzer is basically the gold standard if a match is great or not (picture IGN when they review video games, other people have opinions, but theirs is the most looked upon). His match was against Kenny Omega (A guy who broke the 5-star barrier 3 times last year, and the 6-star barrier once) was at WK12. The video is below for any Wrestling Fans. Fantastic No DQ match.

Chris Jericho? Isn't that the guy from Fozzy?

Yup, this was his debut match in NJPW where his entrance music was "Judas" which is created and performed by Fozzy.

Insert epic entrance music.

I'm well out of the loop in pro wrestling, and will likely never watch it like I used to, but will try to give this a look sooner than later. I was a fan of his going back to WCW. His first appearance on Raw is still a personal favorite moment.

Not having a 5 star match is more on the WWE style than on Jericho. They don't really go for high quality most the time. Meanwhile, New Japan is the best pure wrestling company in the world and they aim for that kind of quality.

That Jericho can do that at 47 years old is flat out amazing. There are other professional athletes who can barely walk at his age.

This makes me very happy. Chris Jericho is my all time favorite wrestler, and Kenny Omega is one I really want to start following now that I know he exists.

If you want to get back into wrestling for the matches, watch NJPW.

I watched the match just now. It was very good. Nothing amazing though. I don't follow wrestling anymore. But, I find it hard to believe the Jericho has never had a match that good before.

It wasn't 5 star match, but Meltzer and his Japanese boner.
