And boy are we glad you fixed that.

To argue that the Switch doesn't advance itself with exclusives is to imply it sold on its specs and design alone, which goes against the X-Box move towards power with the One X.
The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?
I don’t know if anyone ever saying they were “not important”. Some people simply disagree with how important they are.
There does exist a middle ground where exclusives can be important, but also not nearly as big a deal as some here make it out to be. I mean, you didn’t really hear much talk about it until 2017, when Sony finally had a huge exclusive year and Microsoft didn’t. Before that, with the PS4 library mostly pretty meh, all the talk was about power. Of course, now that the Scorpio exists, power is irrelevant.
Of course, you can flip this and say superior performance was important when 360 versions of games ran better than PS3. A large portion of gamers here would “never ever pay for online!!!” .... until they did. How Amazon was super reliable and fail proof, until Switch started dominating it, now it’s “biased towards Switch sales”. How downloadable games were great when XBLA was kicking ass, and then irrelevant when PS4 was dominating that area. Also how XBLA games were irrelevant and “not real games”, until PS4 started getting them and then they were monumental.
Basically what I am saying is people will say dumb shit when it suits their arguments. Are exclusives a big deal? If they’re good, of course. Are they the defining reason PS4 outsells Xbone? No. Just look at sales charts for games.

Finally someone brings this up! Only 3 out of the top 20 PS4 games are exclusives, so while still important, they're clearly not the driving force some make them out to be.

PS has more games, obviously! Nah, I just assume MS does nothing to market the Xbox here. The market itself is so small that there's no localisation option for the country on the console. No conspiracy either, because it's similar in all the major retailers, while that isn't the case in neighboring Austria, at least from what I saw. |
I was mostly joking with the part of xbox and ps4 selling about the same in that store you mentioned.
That might be what the clerk told you but you can bet anything that if they were selling anywhere near the same, the store space wouldn't be 3 to 1.
It's just that Europe is sony land when it comes to console market and they indeed sell at the very least 3 to 1 vs the xbox.
So no... no conspiracy afterall :)

You don't have to be in the top 20 to be a quality exclusive.

Plus a top 20 game list for a system that sells like the PS4 is a bit different given how many games are on that thing that sell a lot. The 20th best selling game per VGchartz is WatchDogs at 4.32 million. Games under that that sold 4 or 3 million are hardly lacking in effectiveness.

Exclusives aren't that important. Yeah, I said it. WiiU said it too.
Here's what IS definitely important, I'm about to blow your mind. You ready?: games people want to play.
The best-selling titles on the PS3 and 360 weren't exclusives, they were multi-plats: CoD, GTA, Sports games.
In addition, I recall in the early months of the gen, the X1 had a few more exclusives than the PS4 did. How'd that work out?
90% of exclusives don't have any visible effect on console sales.
a few 10k more console sales from exclusives that sold barely a million units? Not noticeable.
There are two types of games that drive console sales. Big exclusives (Mario, Uncharted, Halo) and big multiplats (FIFA, CoD, BF etc.).
Neither Persona 5 nor Quantum Break nor ARMS (to mention games from different systems) has any similar effect.

But the vast majority of those games are still multiplat 3rd party games.
