Without spoiling anything, what was so bad about this movie? I haven't seen it yet.

I'm the one telling you the real problems of the movie, trust me.

Unnecessary humour and how the messages of the movie were told. And the pacing.

I went back to see it again and while watching actually counted the moments of humour throughout the film, got to 61 attempts at light heartedness.

Oh hey, here's the SECOND TIME I QUOTED YOU WITH EVIDENCE:

1. Luke's one gift in life was his pilot skills, which was attained through practice, not by virtue of being a female Protagonist.

2. Luke lived a normal Tatooine life; Rey "struggled" and is therefore more interesting by default.

3. Luke got fucked by Jawas and nearly got fucked in the cantina; Rey kicked the shit out of a group of armed individuals.

4. Luke was roughly on Han's level of skill when manning the guns in the MF; Rey is a goddess with all forms of technology even though that's not how the force works.

5. Luke had to struggle and concentrate to use force pull in the Wampa cave; Rey accidentally used force pull to much greater effectiveness with no effort from a further distance.

6. Luke not only lost his first lightsaber duel, but lost a damn hand in the process and nearly died; Rey humiliated Kylo, whose only disadvantage seemed to be because he was male.

7. Luke never pulled off any high level force techniques until he'd trained for 3 years; Rey accidentally did the mind trick on the second try.

8. Luke's skill with a blaster could be explained by his proficiency for gunning things down in his ship on Tatooine; Rey instinctively got a kill shot the second time she ever fired a blaster and proceeded  to get an insane kill:shot ratio.

9. Luke struggled and failed to lift an X-wing, and barely managed to lift three rocks while balancing; Rey lifted rocks like it ain't no thang and does zero effort.

First actually lol.  But first you are comparing a character through a trilogy vs comparing another character with 1.  None of these talk about TLJ.  So for fairness let’s compare A new hope arguments vs TFA.  If you want we can add ESB and TLJ later.

1. It’s never established how good a pilot Luke is.  Just through a couple comments made by Luke.  But during the attack on the Death Star they sent the best pilots out first, while Luke and company went last (wedge left the fight, so obviously they weren’t great).  However, while a more experienced pilot missed the hole, Luke hit it on his first try.  Aka Mary Sue.

2. Dumb argument lol.  They created 3 very difference characters Poe, Finn and Rey.  All of them are interesting for different reasons.

3. Luke was a sheltered child, Rey survived on her own for all of her life.  She couldn’t do so unless she was a quick learner.  She carries a bow staff around for a reason.

4. WTF? Han was an expert at manning the guns, magically so was Luke. She spent her life fixing things, breaking stuff down, selling stuff etc.  of course she understands technology.

5. TLJ “I’ve only seen this power once before, it didn’t scare me then, it does now”

6. Rey can use a bow staff, it’s not farfetched she can use a laser sword.  According to the TFA scripts, killing Han weakened Kylo Ren, also he was shot, also he was trying to capture, not kill.

7. See number 5

8. And storm troopers got decimated by teddy bears lol.  Clearly they aren’t the smartest bunch.  I don’t remember Luke gunning things down on Tatooine with his ship, so I’ll have to pass on this one.

9. See number 5.

I guess I ended up commenting on all of them, oh well. And if you need me to elaborate on number 5 I can, but my point is that the force made Rey and Ben abnormally strong.  So obviously she would be more powerful than Luke at first.

1. It is, actually. When discussing the Death Star run, he points out that he bullseye's target that small all the time in spite of more experienced pilots commenting on how impossible that is.

2. And then made Rey a better pilot than Poe and a better warrior than Finn.

3. Rey's lack of understanding on how to use blasters and her diminutive stature would imply she only ever defended herself, yet she had zero issue taking down bounty hunters coming after BB-8. Yeah, no.

4. And Luke spent most of his childhood training to use guns on ships (see no. 1), and that was Han's schtick. Rey admittedly never flew a ship like the Falcon before. Didn't stop her from being goddamn perfect at it.

5. Oh hey, thanks for proving that she's a Mary Sue. If you don't understand how her being naturally better at the Force than the fucking CHOSEN ONE makes her a Mary Sue, I suggest you just resign to watching your bad movies.

6. Then you clearly have no understanding of lightsabers. Zero weight in the nearly-infinite cutting edge makes for a dangerous and hard to use weapon. There's a reason non-force users avoid using lightsabers and why Jedi don't receive theirs until far into their training.

7. See number 5

8. A stormtrooper has zero effect on one's ability to aim. And again, it is referenced that Luke was a pretty good shot in his T-16.

9. See number 5

And I guess you failed to actually address any of them properly. Except 5, 7, and 9. Thanks for proving my point on those.

Its funny how disliking the movie automatically makes you being called so many different things: childish, unmature, no personality person...
I was discussing with some friends today, none of them liked the movie. We got to the same conclusion that stranger things season 2 suffered from exactly the same problems as TLJ.
But hey, a lot of people is watching it and the critics like it so it must be good...

1.  It’s never established how good a pilot he is, he’s a whiny kid who brags about everything.  He got into his first X-wing and destroyed a Death Star while a bunch of veterans couldn’t.  Speaking of, Luke was the one who destroyed the Death Star and seemingly saved the galaxy(until ESB came out).  What did Rey do?  Abandoned her friends, got captured, nearly killed before Finn saved her.  Yup, total Mary Sue.

2. Because she dodged 2 tie fighters while piloting the fastest ship in the galaxy?  Please.  Poe took out like a zillion ships on his X-wing and destroyed starkiller based.  Frankly, the fact that you think that makes your entire argument crumble.  As for Finn, well, he’s a stormtrooper, do you remember what happened to stormtroopers Endor?  lol ok that was a bad joke.  But they never established Finn as a great warrior, just a stormtrooper with a heart who apparently likes blasters.  And he does eventually take down Phasma, and Traitor.

3.  She had a lot of conflict, remember she almost gave BB-8 up for some food.  But she quickly grew attached to BB-8, I mean, do you seriously think she wouldn’t defend BB-8 after just giving up her chance to sell him?  Um, no

4.  A couple comments from a whiny ass kid doesn’t make it fact.  He never fired those turrets before.  Rey had trouble flying the falcon at first before she started to get the hang of it.  Luke was perfect from the beginning.

5. You didn’t make a point, instead just mocked.  So there is no reason for me to comment further.  If you don’t have anything to add, then please feel free to resign.

6. Yet Finn had no issues wielding one for the first time.  despite him only knowing how to use blasters.

7. See number 5

8. Yup, no one but Luke mentions his skill, yet somehow is amazing at everything.  Rey had a couple lucky shots after missing and suddenly she’s a Mary Sue.

9. See 5.

People just need to fucking relax with Star Wars.

You're never getting the Original Trilogy again. That was lightning in a bottle, something that happens once in a life time. You're never going to be 9 years old again. Accept it and move on.

The only thing the sequel trilogy does is lift Star Wars from the laughably awful wooden prequels to a level that's comparable/better than modern blockbuster movies like the Marvel films, Harry Potter, etc. It's better than the Hobbit films.

And that's all you're going to get. You're not going to get something that reaffirms your childhood, you're a grown up. Get over it. If you're going to nit pick everything to death you're never going to enjoy anything. Also Empire had a large drop from A New Hope, AOTC also had a huge drop from Phantom Menace.

1. Okay, you're just going to insist on being wrong despite the evidence.

2. She piloted the fastest ship in the galaxy through a crashed star destroyer and managed to position the ship in a way that aiming the blaster wasn't necessary. You're on a role with being wrong.

3. Except no she didn't, she thought about it for two seconds and didn't. And that doesn't have anything to do with her ability to take out three people who are actually trained on that sort of thing.

4. It makes it fact when it's supported in every bit of following lore, especially when you take into account that his father was also a badass pilot. Quit trying to brush off Luke's pilot skills just because you were wrong, it's a well-established fact in-verse.

5. Oh, let me break it down for you: when a character was previously hyped as the absolute Pinnacle of force powers, so much to the point that he was the chosen one, you can't just have someone who happens to be a perfect marksman, natural lightsaber dualist, and expert pilot ALSO be better at using the force than said chosen one with zero-to-no training on the subject. So again: thanks for proving she's a Mary Sue. In the future, I recommend you actually read and assess instead of getting upset that you've been proven incorrect.

6. And he lost both fights. Go fucking figure.

7. See number 5.

8. And so does Ben. Hurr. And technically, Rey only lined up one shot in the Falcon. The lucky shots were all Finn, and then Rey lined up the perfect one-shot after Finn's blaster rotation was disabled.

9. See number 5.

And no, you're not.

In my first post I made it clear that I was referring to the scope of ANH, not 40 years of established lore.

1. In the scope of ANH, I’m not.  His piloting skills don’t get established till later. Which is my point.  You have 40 years of established lore vs 2 movies.

2. She also allowed the turret to get disabled.  Also you’re assuming piloting ships is hard. Friggin Anakin piloted a Naboo ship for the first time and managed just fine lol.

3. She lived by herself for 20 years or whatever.  She obviously picked up a few things along the way.  Why else would she carry a bow staff?

4.  Again, In the scope of ANH it was far from fact.  If you add 40 years of lore then sure, he’s a great pilot. In 40 years you might find out that Rey was an even better pilot than Luke.

5. Lol where did I say I was upset? And btw if you have to tell the other person over and over again that they are wrong, chances are it’s YOU that are wrong.  A Mary Sue is someone who has a lot of skills with little to no explanation as to how they got them.  Rey’s powers in the force get explained by both Luke and Snoke in TLJ.  Thus making her not a Mary Sue.  That was my point.  I already established how Rey was able to beat Ben, which you didn’t reply to, so I’ll leave that at bay.

6. Yup. Btw the point was that he could wield it(which he did) not that he was amazing at it. Luke’s lightsaber called to Rey, not Finn and not Kylo Ren.

Im gonna stop listing 7/9.

8. yup, took quite a lot of effort to take out 2 small tie fighters on a much faster, larger and stronger ship.
