Just wanted to make another statement on my favorite topic.
Ways I see Sony failing at this:
-Build a PlayStation Switch the is seperate from the main line console. (Ex. PS4 or PS5 uses X86, PS Switch uses ARM. PS Switch has own games/OS.)
-PlayStation Switch Clone is PlayStation 5 (I don't see portability being more important than 4K and VR with the core PS userbase, this would go against everything the PS4 is.)
-Sony fails to offer 4G or 5G, limiting the capability to take advantage of PSN, and larger market functions like calling and texting.
-They try and shoehorn it in with Xperia and Android.
Ways I see Sony having an oppertunity to succeed:
-Built as another piece of the PlayStation Ecosystem. (Uses PS4 or PS4 chipset. Shares the PS4 or PS5 OS. Shares all software and services with PS4 and PS5.)
-Built with mobile in mind. (Offer a 4G or 5G model, allowing it to stand alone as a mobile streaming device, mobile online gaming platform, and cell phone replacemennt.)
-Built with the gamers in mind. (Offer a Wifi only model for a very affordable price for those that purly want it for gaming.)
I would love to see them build a PS Switch, PSP3, PS4 Phone, etc. by 2019 on a 7nm PS4 chipset. AMD already has APU's with massive CPU improvements over PS4, with just shy of PS4 GPU power that are running at 15 Watts on 14nm fabrication.
Alternatively, and maybe even more plausable. They could do very well with PS5 in 2019 offering a Wifi PS5 Handheld, 4G PS5 Phone, a base PS5 Console, and a Premium tier PS5 console.
If they went the PS5 route, they could have the entire PS4 library B/C on all PS5 devices. PS5 games could be built to scale from 720p on the Handheld and Phone, with 1080p or 1440p on the base PS5, and 4K in the Premium unit.
At any rate, I believe Sony has to expand the PlayStation ecosystem to more form factors, and continue to push for a broader market. Either they do it under the PS4 and establish themselves in the mobile space before moving to PS5, or they do it with the launch of the PS5, offering more ways to play, and greater value than ever.
