Forums - Movies & TV - I just watched the Last Jedi and (spoiler)....

Moviegoing 2017 could hit 22-year low.

Although movie ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada are expected to dip just below last year's record of $11.38 billion, the number of tickets sold is projected to drop 4% to 1.26 billion — the lowest level since 1995, according to preliminary estimates from studio executives.

RT has 143 000 votes also.  I have heard that IMDB are filtering reviews and calculating a score that isn't an average. If true their score are worthless and manipulated.

For other countries, if you care, it doesn't bode well. By far the lowest score of the franchise in France (2.9/5).

That's bullshit, IMDB doesn't do that and is by far the web with most votes registered, most people likes the movie and almost every single critics agree that is great, get over it.

Weighted Average Ratings

IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. Various filters are applied to the raw data in order to eliminate and reduce attempts at vote stuffing by people more interested in changing the current rating of a movie than giving their true opinion of it.

The exact methods we use will not be disclosed. This should ensure that the policy remains effective. The result is a more accurate vote average.

Sorry guy

Honestly no 7.7 is not great for IMDb. It's pretty good. But that number will drop as hype dwindles. It will settle 7-7.5. Which is pretty good but not great at all.

Is the same score that IT had and that movie was higly loved. Lawlight already said it would go down when it was at 150k votes, now it has alost 200k and still 7.7, it may fall to 7.5 at most which is still a good score specially when, I insist, there a horde of fans making multiple accounts to give this movie the lowest possible score, and as bad as you think the movie may to give it a 1 or a 2 is completely stupid and undeserved.

Undeserved?

The movie is bad, not 1 or 2 level of bad, but for some it's even worse. When a movie is so digusting it ruin a whole franchise for you, then that's when the movie start to get 1 or 2.

If we are being serious and takes it as a standard movie, it derserve a 3 or a 4, stupid and illogical plots, too long, uninteresting characters bad jokes , not spectacular in anything. A standard marvel movie.

So you mean it detect troll votes? How the fuck is that something bad? It makes the score way more reliable then, otherwise you would have a dishonest score made by tons of angry childlike trolls making multiple accounts to give the movie a 1 which is exactly what happens in rottentomatoes, that's why the score is lower there.

The problem is that nobody know how the votes are weighted. It would be easy for them to help movies they want. There is no clarity.

It uses the same automatic system for every movie, there is no person manually erasing the votes they don't want, if this movie has a 7.7 then it hold the same value as the 7.7 of IT for example, in the case of rottentomatoes however, there is no such system so the score is way less reliable since it could be tons of trolls there.

Revenge of the Sith has a 7.6 average and 7.6 weighted average

The Last jedi has a 7.3 average and a 7.7 weighted average.

So for the moment they have artificially inflated the Last Jedi score by 0.4.... Interesting.

You don't know what and how they are doing it. You suppose it's an automatic system which is always the same but it's all a guessing game until it's disclosed.

Cause there isn't a horde of angry trolls making multiple accounts to give Revegne of the sith the lowest possible score but in the case of TLJ there is a ton of them, simple enough to understand.

What are you calling people troll? They hated the movie, they have the right to express their opinions.

You think that giving a score of 1 for this movie is a joke? I think that giving 10 for this movie is an even bigger joke. There is no justification for giving a perfect score for this kind of movie, it's way too weak. This clearly isn't a masterpiece like the Godfather.... Even if you liked the movie you must admit that it wasn't anything close to a 10.

Giving more weight to a 10 than to a 1 is a joke.
