I think Sony will buy Level 5 one day. It'll get them to focus more on Sony platforms instead of the DS and whatever Square wants them to do, and if you look at it Sony doesn't have a single in-house RPG team, and the only proper RPG Sony ever developed in-house was the Legend of Dragoon years ago. If Sony were to start looking to purchase an RPG team, Level 5 would be the obvious choice, given their history with the company.

I doubt it. I don't think Sony is going to waste all that money buying L5 (can they evn buy them?) and I think they'd rather spend money funding their games. Also, they make most games for Sony anyway (and Sony publishes them) so I guess it really doesn't matter although L5 has been getting a little closer to Nintendo and more independent since Professor Layton. Nintendo publishs Professor Layton. Since then they've felt more independant. They're still not Sony only, though because they have made PL and have interest in making a Wii game. But that doesn't matter with the Sony buying L5 thing you proposed. I just don't think they'll buy them.

L5 published the PL series themselves, iirc.

I had no idea what SE meant till I went to that one link.

3rd ain't bad! 2nd if you count the 2 as 1 that were mentioned above me.

but 8.6 isn't much!

sony should buy 51% of microsoft shares so they own M$! haha

/sarcasm (in case you didn't know)

@Soriku I'm not really well educated in shares and all the stock market stuff . But i'm looking at the website and the largest owner has only 21.29% , according to my understanding you'd need to have alot more than that to have complete decision making power.

1ST 21.29%
2ND 8.8%
3RD (Sony) 8.58%

Considering that there is no one with complete control i'm guessing that power is proportionate to the amount of shares held in the company , would it be incorrect to say that Sony is the 4th most powerfull influence upon SE?

The 1st being the board of directors.

@ Soriku

Your ignorance is showing. Nintendo published PL in America and EU only.

You realize 8.6% in a company as big as SE is millions of $? And its silly to think that Sony couldnt buy L5.

Oopsie. You posted while I was posting. You corrected yourself.

Sony isn't going to buy Level 5 because Level 5 doesn't want to be bought. Eat it fanboys.

It doesn't matter, 8% isn't going to let you decide anything and I doubt influence anything. Now if they still owned 20% then things might be different.
I don't think your looking at "8%" in the right context , 8% of a company the size of Square Enix is actualy quite significant in my opinion.I'm not highly educated in company law but it seems like common sense to think that Sony has some influence over SE .

It's not enough to do anything dramatic. THey can't tell SE what to do or not to do on major releases, and changes in games. If that was the case then the ds wouldn't get as much SE support as it does.

I looked it up. It's about 8.6%.

Wow, the third largest shareholder. Not bad.

Why do you think the PSP got CC . jk :) This ammount of share probably has minimal effect , but its still something :)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

@sc94597 I'd agree that Sony aren't powerfull to the extent that they could decide what platform a game should be released on or what content it should have , but you still can't deny that Sony would have an influence in major decision making , they won't be succesfull in influences SE to do something un-profitable but I'm sure they're
share in SE will come in useful in certain situation.
