Only issue I've seen with one of our Xbox One's is the disc drive is very temperamental when it comes to reading BluRay movies. It's pretty annoying, as I have to keep ejecting the disc and putting it back in or hard reset it until it works.

That's a bit disappointing.

There's been a number of YouTube videos of X owners reporting hardware failures. They might be within the 3% fail rate, but to have two people you know in close proximity to experience this is a potential red flag. |
wtf? no it isn't a red flag, this is going to happen, the odds of everyone that has a failure where none of them know each other and none happen close together would be astronomical. if this was happening to a LOT of people that would be a red flag.

Hold your horses, Buddy Boy. My OP states "X owners." So I originally thought this was in reference to the Xbox One X specifically. When I realized my mistake shortly afterwards, I just left the issue alone since it wasn't what the OP meant. But what the OP presented is still a legit issue, but not as serious. It's been four years since the launch of the Xbox One so hardware failures are bound to happen. Also, the OP personally knew two who has issues at right about the same time. Not a coincident, and something of a potential concern. And these guys aren't the only two experiencing issues.
Last edited by LivingMetal - on 01 December 2017Thought my xbox one wifi chip had failed but a power cycle returned it to working so must have been a blip. May have been because an ethernet cable was connected without being connected to anything else (new router didn't have enough ethernet ports). It's had some serious use.

Day one Edition still going strong.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

That happened to mine as well, about a year ago. I can get it to read a disk occasionally - maybe 5% of the time. It does everything else fine though, so I turned it in to a secondary Xbone. I have an S as my primary now.
Bad luck of the draw. Sometimes consoles last all gen. Sometimes they die after a year.

you need to put the numbers into perspective. a 3% failure rate is still around 1 million failed devices so no there is not a legit issue here (except for those that are unfortunate enough to be in the standard failure rate).
