Right. But within that global market are local markets. Which of those does the PS4 cater mostly to? |
All of them bar China and Japan.

This
The PlayStation formula has proven to be really effective when everything is said and done, so why change it?

SNES Classic, NES Classic, Wii and currently Switch. |
The SNES Classic and NES Classic sold less than the PS4 in Japan. The Switch is a hybrid selling on the portable aspect. The Wii did worse than the PS3 in way since it benefitted from the casual audience. But even not taking that into consideration, it still only did ok. So the last console system to kick ass in Japan was the PS2.

It's really hard to say. Obviously America is the country with the most sales but then there's a few countries with similar sales like UK, Japan, Germany and France.
You really can't say it's mainly catered for any country because it's very popular in so many. That's the secret to Sony's global domination. Don't focus predominantly on 1 country. |
Isn't that the point of this thread? Or are you changing that again?

Sony global domination!? We ignoring fact that Nintendo basically has around 70-80% HW sales (that's real domination) in Japan.

Well Japan isn’t global, is it?

You don't make any sense, nobody said that Japan alone is global, but you can't say global without Japan market (strongest gaming market after US and Europe).

No the point of this thread is to show how Japan is relevant and important.

Yes . Sony dominate the globe no matter how you spin it. If aliens passed by and were asked what's the best selling console on that planet they would say ps4. Globally domination. Globally on the globe.
The PS4 gets all the big japanese third party IPs now that the Wii U and Vita are basically dead, and Switch only starting. However, there is a distinct lack in first and second party titles designed for japanese players; with almost all IPs from Sony developed since the PS3 era are catering to western audiences. If the PS4 hadn't the widespread support of third party publishers, it wouldn't have done any better than the Wii U in Japan, just like it did in the beginning when the PS4 was just out and trailing behind the Wii U sales. With the success of the Switch, the japanese publishers may start to jump ship to Nintendos hybrid console, at which point the PS4 sales will drop hard since it would loose much of it's appeal to japanese gamers.
