Forums - Nintendo - The Nintendo Switch is winning because it’s ‘good enough’

They're probably basing this on the top selling items you see when you enter the eShop. So currently for this week Rocket League is selling more units than SMO. Overall SMO is obviously much much higher.

Ah that would make sense. They should be clear on that fact.

Although... I wouldn't like to think that the top 10 best selling Switch games would include late ports of multi-platform games.

Lets wait and see a third party actually attempt to try and earn that spot first. From what has released far at least, I think we could all agree Nintendo is the only one really doing so and therefore deserving of the places in the top 10 best selling Switch games.

Maybe Ubisoft will.  We'll see.  My Switch will only be used for Nintendo games.

I mean I get where you are coming from and I do partly/mostly agree, but I think if for example Square Enix makes Dragon Quest 12 or Capcom makes a brand new Monster Hunter game exclusively for Switch, it could make it to the top 10.

If Switch sells well who's knows how much dedication some companies may put into it. Besides the 10th best selling game could still be at like 5+ million, 3rd party games can still do impressive numbers even if they are below that.

What I get is that it's succeeding cause you can play in the bathroom cause the whole "graphics isn't everything" card could've been played with the Wii and Wii U against its competitors.

People buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. When we look back on the top 10 best selling Switch games, none of them will be Rocket League, Skyrim, or Doom.

They'll all be published by Nintendo or have Mario in them somehow.

They dont have to be, and thats the whole point.People might buy the Switch for Nintendo games, but if they "stay" and also buy every now and then third party games, and these games find their own success there, then thats more than good enough.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

People buy multiplat games on the Switch for portability though.  First party games have nothing to do with that.

I feel like the point of the article went over your head with that reply.  =P

That depends on how far your bathroom is from your WiiU.

The bigger point is that I cannot playfor am hour and a half during downtime at work on my WiiU, PS4, or X1.  However I can on my Switch.

The Switch is winning because it's the most convenient way to play Nintendo games in a long time. Plus it offers something different from what other competitors are proposing with reasonable compromises.

Of Course that visuals aren't the most important thing, but reason why Switch is wining is not beacuse Rocket League, Skyrim or Doom look and run "good enough", but because hybrid nature of Switch, because Switch usability (playing any time, any where, with anyone) that can fit in every persons life style compared to only home consoles or only handhelds. Offcourse huge big games and system sellers game are also thing.

But I agree that people will asking more and more 3rd party ports on Switch beacuse Switch offers full handheld play and thats game changer compared to competition.

NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, Wii, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, DS, 3DS--examples of consoles that weren't the most powerful available but still crushed it in sales. Power has never been there sole factor when it comes to success.

With that said, I've been playing portable mode Skyrim almost exclusively on the Switch since Friday and it looks spectacular on the small screen.

Nintendo switch is a good option for those who want 2 on 1 system. In my case, even if I get a switch, I will never play third parties games on it, doesn't matter how good portability is on the system. Besides, handheld gaming isn't for me anyway.
