3DS and WiiU would like to talk to you about lowballed forecasts.

3DS and Wii U cannot speak so if you have a point relevant to my post you needa say it yourself.

They had multiple forecasts that needed to be revised down and still didn't met the forecast. So Nintendo isn't always lowballing.

Unless I'm mistaken, with Nintendo's forcast of 14m, that means they plan to ship atleast (because Nintendo always lowballs) 8m Switches from now to March, double the amount of Switches they've shipped in total. The majority of that 8m will most certainly be sent out during these next two months. Even if there still ends up being shortages, anyone who wants one can definitely get one with a little effort.

I don't get the idea that Nintendo are losing a sale... if a Kid wants a Switch for christmas and the parents go and pay a scalper for it... where do you think that scalper got his Switch to sell? you understand these people aren't making the systems right?

Or do you think a parent will check one time online and give up on getting what their kids want? head out and buy an X1 or PS4 instead? that isn't the way it works.

Well some parents will buy any videogame independent of what child asked or if it's available. Sometimes price, saler talk, etc.

so you're saying that some parents will go in a game shop looking for a Switch, see that it's 300 and not buy it? Damn Nintendo need to up their game and start price matching with the 50e PS/360s in the used aisle.

That is to say, those kids not getting a Switch is not Nintendos stock issue really, it's parents not wanting to get them the right thing.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Nope, what I'm saying is that parents may not buy what their childs ask for even when the system is available, if there isn't stock of Switch they may buy other system for their child, even more if it's cheaper.

In the U.S.? I'm not looking for 1. I have 1 but that's good to hear they are available elsewhere.

If you aren't looking for one, why are you complaining?

I'm complaining because of the prices scalpers are charging,  for those who actually want 1 and for those families whose kids are gonna be upset Christmas morning or for those who are paying well over the odds for them.

Or the 3DS and Wii U just sold so badly they couldn't even make the lowball estimate. Admittedly we don't know for 100% fact if they are or not so it's a matter of what you believe. What is fact though is it makes more sense to estimate a number you're most likely to reach than not as you want to meet goals to please investors, thus it also makes sense to assume they are always lowballing. I won't be surprised when even after adjusting their forecast up to 14m they still well exceed it.

The concept of lowballing is you make a estimative and a margin of confidence and "choose" the interval that grants you most probability. We don't have access to Nintendo data so we can only look at their forecast and sales. Since there were multiple cases they missed selling lower then we can't say they ALWAYS lowball.

Well I'm going to, you'll just have to deal with that.

This is an irrelevant nitpick anyway as whether I say they always lowball or not doesn't change the meaning of my post.

ZhugeEX said that Nintendo plans to fly in there christmas stock this year, to ensure they get as much stock as possible to meet holiday demand. This is quite a bit more expensive way to deliver the switch, probably eliminating all profit for them. But they rightly see it important to get as many switches sold this holiday

I agree and hopefully they will do this. Also, a way to somehow raise their stock above their projections would be helpful both to Nintendo and the consumers.

If your question is if I agree that there is a good chance of Nintendo going over 14M for the period? I do agree it's possible.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding my point in this post. Whilst i agree any potential Switch customers can easily walk into a retail store and buy a Switch atm, the fact that, so early in the Christmas run-up scalpers are increasing their prices for Switch on Amazon is mildly worrying. With it being so early in the run-up, the Switch is only going to become more in-demand as the holidays near and as soon as the shortages worsen, so the scalpers prices will rise even further. I know it's probably not possible but it would be nice if Nintendo were able to flood the market with enough Switches to deter the scalpers. Even 1 sale at inflated prices on Amazon is a blow to gamers imo and there probably are parents out there with insufficient time to check several retailers. In short, even shortages in 1 place (Amazon) could be harmful not just for Nintendo but also for some gamers and especially disappointed kids on Christmas day.
