Forums - Sales Discussion - PSN still makes more money than the entirety of Nintendo Co., Ltd.

When consumers could have supported the ambitious, more reliable PS3, with its free online service, and full backwards compatibility with the two greatest gaming systems of all time next to the SNES... they were instead singing happy songs to celebrate Sony's doom because a couple of Sony representatives got a little arrogant..

Paid online is the natural extension to the great success of X360 vs the relative failure of PS3.

PS3 outsold XB360

The original price was $500.. not 600. And I'm not really against X360 supporters as I myself bought one before PS3 and ended up playing more games on it. My criticism is mainly directed at the gamers who demonized Sony at the time MS was doing much worse practices, one of which is now standardized.

The first number is a 5, so idk why youre rounding up. its 500.

he was talking about the SW sales at the time, and USA sales of the consoles (because on Japan, Europe and ROW Sony never had issues with MS)

599 should be rounded to 500?

So? And?

Don't Care? Don't enter the thread.

Don't tellme what to do. Point is why should anyone care? This is just for people to brag by the very people it matters the least to.

Not ordering you around. It's just that if you don't care, why enter? You didn't contributed any to the discussion

Umm, this is a site based on game sales. Things like this are the main reason for the site's existence.

I think it's worth noting how much digital has grown (the comparison to Nintendo is kinda pointless, but at least it shows the scale of it), and whether people like it or not. It is going to replace physical media.

Don’t you worry about that - based on my calculations, their revenue from PS+ would account for no more than 12.8% of their total revenue. And that’s not counting the actual game publisher’s split. So, a guestimate - around 7.5%.

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to get an estimate if you have their subscription numbers.
How did you calculate it? Assumed that every subscriber pays $60 for a full year subscription?

Yeps. I estimated the current subscriber numbers based on the growth from FY2015 to FY2016 (divided by half because we’re only half way through the fiscal year) and that resulted in 29.2M subscribers. Multiplied by $60.

I then divided the PS+ revenue for half a year by the gaming division’s revenue for the first half of this FY.

Now we have to keep in mind that there are frequently deals on the PS+ subscription itself. I paid US$54 for 15 months.

That revenue above does not include the games’ publishers’ cuts. We really don’t know how much that is.

So that means the 20M paying PSN users spend an average of about 300€ per year.

I didn’t realize it was so expensive.
