Forums - Gaming - PUBG is an “XBO console exclusive”

The game is called "PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS – Game Preview Edition for Xbox One" The Game Preview Edition is a console exclusive. Dunno about the full game though.

It makes me wonder if the final release will also get its own retail version. Hopefully if it does it'll actually come with the disc!

I can see that happening. This is the $30 dollar "early access" version. If I recall they haven't reached version 1.0 yet. Nor does it have cross play.

So when the "real" version comes out. It will probably have all the extra stuff they added. Cross play. And probably cost $60.

Would allow them to call this "console exclusive". Because it would be the "Game preview" console exclusive. So when the finished version comes out it won't say that.

Man, all of the confusion these days

Didn't MS start negotiating to extend exclusivity for PUBG? Maybe they got full console exclusivity?Who knows I guess.

Well, so they extended their timed exclusivity for perpetuity? Good for MS and useless for me.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

What games did MS say were console exclusive at E3 that already had PS4 versions announced?

Seems MS is using the exclusive label for the Game Preview version of the game. Just typical stupid PR. I don't see why anyone cares, lol.

People care because like the topic creator some are confused and think it means a permamnent exclusive.
As for the games, MS presented 42 games and labeled 22 games at E3 as "console exclusive".
People were confused and started posted links to games that showed their annouced platforms, and it didn't add up to anywhere near 22. So people came to the conclusion that MS were talking about timed exclusives.

Your post originally had a picture saying "all part of the plan". I don't know why you removed it, but you were basically admitting the marketing was doing exactly what it was intended to do. The game has been confirmed to be coming to both consoles multiple times now. Ignorance on one sides part does not mean the other side is at fault.

At E3 Microsoft put text up before every game saying whether it was console exclusive, console launch exclusive, Microsoft exclusive, or a world premiere, aka a regular multiplat. If anyone was confused, they've only got themselves to blame :)

Like I said, right before that trailer it said Console Launch Exclusive or whatever. That pic is immediately following the trailer. It seems you didn't watch or don't remember the MS E3. They clearly labeled every game that got a trailer. The only games people could possibly be confused on were the ID games in the sizzle reel. We can just agree to disagree, I don't care to crap on someone for not watering down their marketing for a most ignorant, least informed of consumers at the expense of common sense, and these deals they strike in the first place. It doesn't make sense for MS to make it clear that PUBG is eventually coming to PS4, they want you to think it might only be on Xbox. And considering the game they're advertising is called PUBG Game Preview Edition, it seems they actually can say console exclusive and not have to worry about anything.

Besides marketing being exactly to atract the most ignorant....

Let's also ignore the constant change and duplication of terms and meanings, ALL companies do this. But not.

I see it now. Thanks.
And you mean "people who watched E3".
The vast majority of the millions who didn't watch E3 could get quite confused or mislead by the way Phill labeled them, because that's how news articles commonly reported it.

It doesn't make sense for MS to make it clear that PUBG is eventually coming to PS4, they want you to think it might only be on Xbox.

I'm not disagreeing on that part. It's partially the same principle behind buying marketing rights.
What I'm saying I have an issue with is them using two distinguishably different terms, to mean the same thing.

This goes beyond just being non-transparent about a planned PS4 version.

They're not using 2 terms to describe a single version of a game. They're using the " console exclusive" term to describe the Xbox Game Preview Edition. I doubt you'll ever see that version on any other platform.

Why are people upset about this? As far as underhanded advertising, this is so mild I don’t know if I would even think twice about it, let alone get upset about it....
