Is several guys here with a problem to understand the title or just want to say what they like?

The question isn't what is the best first boss fight, the question is the best OPENING boss fight. Most of what people said isn't fight on the opening of the game, that is totally not common.

I did mean first boss by opening boss. Its more often than not that you don't start a game straight with a boss, which is true for Poseidon as well.

I’ve honestly not heard of any of these.

Five are from God of War, two from Devil May Cry, one from Demon's Souls and one from Dark Souls.

Poseidon is the best opening boss fight, epic. I wonder if the new God of War will stick to tradition and open with a boss fight... hmm

I thought from the first trailer that Jorgumander, don't know the spelling, would be the first boss. That turned out wrong when they revealed he is a friendly NPC. It was the best boss in Devil May Cry 2, I still think he would be better as a boss fight.

So you were the imprecise one =] gotcha.

The game opens with you seeing the battle of the Titan against the boss so even though there is a tutorial before you face the boss yourself, it is part of the opening sequence.

Well the title leads itself to that. People are just bound to list a game's first bosses, as by and large most games don't start with one.

In my defense, I'd consider Meta Ridley in Prime 3 to be the last moment of the game's very long opening. This is subjective, of course, as some people could say the opening of the game ends when you leave the Olympus, but to me at least it's clear it continues on all the way until that boss, since that's the point where the game throws in a major cutscene and loads of plot, introduces your main suit you'll be using throughout the experience and ditches the action-heavy gameplay in favor of a slightly more Metroidvania style.

I haven't played it, but if you can fell it like a long opening (we have had games with 15-30min opening on the theatrical part only) no problem =]

That was my point on there is very very little games that start with you fightning a boss. But the OP himself explained that he meant first boss and not opening sequel boss.

Best boss fights ever in GoW3 for me from begining to end, loved them all... except Hades.. that bastard....

Also honerable mention of Dantes Inferno, with the first boss being Death and taking his Scythe and using it against him.

I don't think this is even up for debate. It's Metal Gear Ray from MGR: Revengeance, and it's not particularly close.

Opening usually refers to the first level of the game, not the first minute. If that were the case the choices here would be far more limited and many of the bosses in the poll wouldn't even be there.

Looking at the comments here, it looks like this is a VERY debatable topic and you're losing this debate as you're the only one who mentions Metal Gear Ray :)

It's a joke, my dude. I don't seriously believe that a topic which is entirely based upon opinion cannot be debated.

Bayonetta 2

Nier Automata.

Metal Gear Rising

Platinum is the undisputed king of Action games and no one comes remotely close to them. They just know how to open a game strong to give you a taste for more than anyone in the genre.

I don't know what half of what your poll is. Shouldn't even be a poll.

Just off the top of my head, Monster Hunter 4 opened with a great boss fight. Set the tone nicely

I think the fight against Poseidon on Gaia remains my favourite. It really kicked you right into the game and said oh yeah we are going all the way in this god of war game.

This. It served as a natural tutorial as well.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
