People already do that. I'm subscribed to Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Amazon.

How much does that cost you per month? I reckon it can't be cheap?

Netflix is $10, Hulu is $8, Crunchyroll is $7, and Amazon is $8 per month. Now, we'd use Amazon without the streaming service, because of the 2 day shipping. The video service is just a bonus (although I've been watching stuff on it a good bit in the past few months).

Sadly, I can't drop cable because I like to watch live sports, but I've trimmed it down as much as I can.

That's not too bad, but considering that you don't even have access to all premium content (HBO for one is missing dude ) for about $400 a year is a worrying trend to me.

Also, did you get to see Chance on Hulu? I think season 2 is starting this week. Really cool new series with Hugh Laurie, highly recommended!

It's not too bad so far when you're by yourself. Yet as a family my wife and kids have quite different interests. Cable suits us all. If we would all go to streaming it would split up to 3 sets of different subscriptions. Netflix, Disney, Crave, Amazon, Hulu, etc, plus unlimited internet access. Then still need cable for live shows or add ps vue.

I'm rarely subscribed to more than one streaming service at a time. I don't have time to be watching all the new stuff when it comes out. Right now it's HBO, last month it was Amazon, next month is Netflix (and a Hulu trial). This way I can watch all the shows I want, when I want, while paying no more than $15 a month. The fact that I can just unsubscribe at any time is the biggest advantage of streaming for me, so I say bring it on, Disney. I'm sure I can fit you in sometime during the summer.

I liken this situation to what EA wants to do with Access. Gaming isn't there yet but when it reaches that kind of fragmentation I'll tap out and just buy my stuff individually.

I still have a DVD collection and do my best to purchase Ultraviolet titles so I can create my own personal library to stream/download. I'm currently contemplating leaving Netflix, but they successfully revivied Voltron so I can't really leave...

How much was your DVR(or are you leasing)? How much is your cable bill per month? Do you find fast forwarding through commercials immersion breaking?

Atm we're paying CAD 90 a month, which includes leasing the pvr and remote terminal (for the bed room), premium channel package (way too many but it includes the channels my wife and I like). To compare, unlimited internet access starts at CAD 100 a month.

Ofcourse it's immersion breaking, better than not being able to fast forward though. While watching shows on Netflix I still notice the weird breaks where the commercials are supposed to be. One benefit of ffwding commercials is an excuse to get up for a drink or bathroom break. When we're watching Netflix it never feels like the right moment to pause it.

That isn't terrible, when you add in my unlimited internet we are paying about the same per month.  I only ever have to watch one commercial per show at the beginning (on most shows I watch on Hulu) of each episode and I have unlimited internet and the perks of a Prime membership.  However I do not watch live sporting events something that would require additional subscriptions.  There are trade offs to both.

Yeah. Not that I'm against more competition in the market, but it feels like in this case it's only going to cost us more money by splitting more and more popular shows into their own streaming services.

Indeed. If you like anime, wrestling, and Star Trek in addition to whatever Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video have and don't want to miss any of what you like, here's what you'll need:

Netflix: $11 ($14 for premium)
Hulu: $8 ($12 for commercial-free)
WWE Network: $10
CBS All-Access: $6 ($10 for commercial-free)
Crunchyroll: $7
Amazon Prime (needed for Video): $8.25 or $11
Anime Strike (Amazon Video channel): $5

So, we're talking at minimum $55 in subscriptions, potentially up to $69. That's approaching basic cable subscription prices. And it's just going to keep getting worse as everyone wants a slice of the pie and we see more and more streaming services pop up.

Someone should package them all and sell them as a separate subscription. Then with profits, lobby to have separate services banned from broadcast into various regions of the world - so consumers will have to pay for bundles. The model's genius! No one has ever thought of it before!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Tbh, I have very little interest in HBO. That said, I do have HBO, but it's included free in my subscription. I have AT&T and DirecTV as well, so they give me free HBO.

Yay. The streaming market continues to fragment. Remember when streaming was supposed to be more affordable and better than cable? At this rate, it won't be with all the subscriptions you might need to catch everything, and even then there's a lot of shows you still need cable to watch.

Cutting the cord was destined to be ruined as a viable option once every media conglomerate and their mother wanted to chase the Netflix model. If they could find a way to cut out the middle man of being part of a cable package and offer a streaming service, they will. You now have Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu, Amazon, CBS and now Disney offering their own content for these things. It's adding up quick.
