None of the cited sources are official Nintendo ones, so this piece of news belongs in the category of speculation based on hearsay.

Nintendo's next earnings release is scheduled for October 30 and that's the place where they'll announce if and by how much they increase their shipments forecast for Switch this fiscal year. Most of Nintendo's quarterly results also feature a Q&A session with investors, so there's an opportunity for additional clarity regarding Switch production.

In that case I'll just wait until the 30th.

Yeah PGW will be great.

i think they'll be over-manufacturing a fair amount if they continue that through the first half of next year into summer, but great news for the console

I mean if this is true, this could only be for a few specific months, such as during the holiday season, then probably go back down afterwards.

This. They have done well with "artificial demand" this year. Might as well continue to do so.

Its not too much when you look at other Nintendo consoles. The DS sold 23 million in FY 07, 30 million in 08, 31 million in 09 and 27 million in 10. It should also be noted that the DS sold better in Japan before it took off in the US and Europe. Nintendo may be looking at a similar situtation with the Switch. There may also be the fact Nintendo had to make larger orders since its competing for parts with cell phone makers. Last, the article is talking about Nintendo moving into China, which means they'll need more as supply is already crunched.

It is possible the industry source is wrong, but another outlet (think it was the WSJ) reported that Nintendo was upping production to 18 million, so this isn't too far off.

Not a bad idea. When an article states that Nintendo wants to meet a target of 20m for 2017 (refers to fiscal year despite not being noted) and we have this...

Q1 - 1.96m
Q2 - 2.3m (projected)

...and are being told a monthly rate of 2m from now on will do the trick, we can add 12m to the aforementioned ~4.3m for a total of...

...well, it kinda doesn't add up.

I have the strong feeling, that the 20 million figure meant lifetime shipments, so including march '17.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

Nintendo is coming for the Xbox in the fourth quarter.

When have Nintendo ever pronounced a sales target of 20m for 2017?!
Their current target for fy 2017 is 12 million. I was kinda hoping they'd do 14.....
