I don't get why anyone would care about this. The first product was a limited edition item. The SNES, though Nintendo has promised sell more, is in a similar situation. These "consoles" are collectibles. They are played for the games. It wouldn't make sense to have the first NES be less powerful, since the only reason the two were different in that respect, was because of technological limits of their times.
These games won't have that nowadays. Our phones can play games 1000 times more advanced, so who believes they'd invest money in developing two different technologies when pretty much anything can handle the best of the N64, much more the SNES or NES.
The price hike is for licensing the non-first party game. The publishers and Nintendo want to make money, hence why they are selling this. It's not rocket science. If you are collector and would like to play retro games on an HD screen, you are in luck. If you are looking for some new console experience, move along.
