Forums - Gaming - Bioshock 2 is awesome

Yes it is, it's good sequel to great game, I can't say same for Bioshock 3.

Bioshock 2 is a great game but not as great as the other entries so I guess it's washed away in the sea ...

That being said I think Bioshock is overrated in comparison to System Shock 2 ... (Not saying I didn't like Bioshock of course but it's spiritual predecessor (System Shock 2) which it HEAVILY borrowed from doesn't get the same recognition since it practically served as a blueprint for Bioshock.)

Were they as polished as Bioshock though? What gets me the most about the Biosock series is the incredible polish they put into it. Visuals, sound and gunplay are so perfectly designed around each other. Froma pure gameplay standpoint it's probably my favorite shooter. Not even Borderlands or Doom could reach that kind of cohesion.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I think all three Bioshock games are great, but not excellent or masterful games. In the 8 - 8.5 / 10 range.

The first one is viewed as a masterpiece, but I don't think the gameplay is better than solid and the "moment" didn't impact me at all, because you didn't have any choice but to do what you're told to as the player, and the silent protagonist. The atmosphere and some story moments were brilliant though.

I think 2 was also great but was disregarded in the first place because it wasn't developed by Irrational and Ken Levine and it was too samey to the first one. I would say if 2 came before 1, the perception of both would be also swapped.

Infinite felt really fresh setting and story wise, but I think gameplay wise it wasn't even as good as the other two. A lot of gameplay elements that were shown on trailers were scrapped and somehow the reviewers were way too overhyped and gave the game an absolutely overblown metascore that in the end dissappointed most gamers and left a worse impression than the game deserves.

Well I feel it had interesting characters, I was paying attention to the story more than I do most games, and its actually been pretty memorable.

So yeah, if the game did anything right it was creating an effective story and setting even if the gameplay was average. I'm going to eventually replay that game and its not because of the gameplay.

Fair enough. I definitely feel like The Last of Us was in a lot of ways what Infinite should have been, even if i'm not a big Uncharted guy. Of course they're different games but they have a lot of similarities when you think about it.

Well Naughty Dog is one of the best studios at story telling. That doesn't exclude Bioshock Infinite from being a notable product.

I think its also worth noting much of the story in Bioshock games occurs during gameplay or relatively short cutscenes. Essentially what Half Life is known for. While ND games lean into long cutscenes, especially in Uncharted 4. So they way they tell a story is also different.

System Shock 2 is literally the better game in almost everyway compared to Bioshock ... (it might be dated but it does the the whole 'role-playing' aspect better than what Bioshock could hope to achieve and it's no secret that Ken Levine were involved with both series that he intended for Bioshock to be a spiritual successor to System Shock 2)

The mechanics in Bioshock maybe more polished but System Shock 2's content is far more interesting and better too might I argue ...

I guess the best metaphor would be is that Bioshock is 'shallow' and that System Shock 2 is 'deep' ...

I got bored of Borderlands after a while and I haven't played the new Doom yet ... (The only difference (aside from the mechanics or level design) I imagine between Bioshock and those games in comparison that the former actually has some sort of plot going on that people can pay attention to.)

Reviews pushed me away from trying this game. Then, I never played Infinite because I never played part 2. I liked the first one okay. It wasn't GotY material but it was good.

2 is fine. But its certainly not nearly as good as the first one or Infinite. The story is lacking, incomparison to the other games, and the combat is not as good as Infinite. It probably doesnt help that I played Infinite before 2, but still!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Why because it only scored with a Metascore of 88? :D

Nice to see so many people hating on this series. I don't understand these games, they are very pretty and very boring. Infinite is poor hallway and arena shooter that was treated like masterpiece in storytelling for some reason. Multiple universes man, it's so deep.
