System Shock 2 is literally the better game in almost everyway compared to Bioshock ... (it might be dated but it does the the whole 'role-playing' aspect better than what Bioshock could hope to achieve and it's no secret that Ken Levine were involved with both series that he intended for Bioshock to be a spiritual successor to System Shock 2)
The mechanics in Bioshock maybe more polished but System Shock 2's content is far more interesting and better too might I argue ...
I guess the best metaphor would be is that Bioshock is 'shallow' and that System Shock 2 is 'deep' ...
I got bored of Borderlands after a while and I haven't played the new Doom yet ... (The only difference (aside from the mechanics or level design) I imagine between Bioshock and those games in comparison that the former actually has some sort of plot going on that people can pay attention to.)
