The holiday lineup for Switch in Japan isn't *that* great. Odyessy is an open world Mario, but that isn't really mega popular in Japan, while Xenoblade is really a C-tier Nintendo IP. Fire Emblem Warriors is alright, but it's a Musuo game, not a real Fire Emblem so that limits it.

But the 3DS didn't get a Fire Emblem of any kind in 2011.

This isn't some kind of 3v3 where 3 Switch games go head-to-head against SM3DL, MK7, and MH3G. Splatoon 2, MK8D, and SMO get to bring all of their friends to the party.

Yes we can't know the Switch's base level until its fully stocked. I just looked it doesnt seem to be in stock in Japan, though in all the other tracked countries, USA,UK,France,Spain,Italy,Canada,Germany there is plenty of Switch stock roughly at similar levels to the PS4 in those countries

Or maybe someone should know that the Switch is a Home Console not a Handheld. Even Vgchartz agrees with this.

It first need to sell more than the home console record. Was it PS2? With 13mil?

Why does it matter what we call it? It's most certainly a handheld in Japan

Again the PS2 is the only home console to sell over 20m in Japan. But that doesn't make it a threshold. The Wii ended at 12.5m and that was hardly seen as a failure. The PS3 ended with only 2m behind the Wii. And the PS4 will be at over 6m after 4 years (not 5m) and could end up with 10m if the PS5 doesn't come out too early. Yeah the console industry is in decline but it's hardly "shit". As long as software publishers find profitability (and they do) then home consoles will remain relevant in Japan.

Actually I have no problem saying the Wii was a relative dud in Japan. After a great start it really fizzled out there big time. 10 mill as the best case scenario is "shit" to me. That's a very low baseline.

Then you have high standards. Like it or not Japan market has declined compared to booming sales in the west. I am not saying expectations should be Wii U level, but selling Wii level is perfectly fine and a big success, especially if the price of the console/ software is higher.

That's very much a normal baseline for a home console in Japan if you're not called a PS2.

Which shows the console industry has gone to shit there. 5 million after 4 years is pathetic performance, the Vita even sold 5 million.

Do consider that a) the younger target demographic is getting smaller, fast, in Japan and b) Japan is not the size of North America or Europe in the first place, so you cannot expect comparable sales.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

Maybe it will be a hybrid engine, using the best tech from UE4 and Luminous Studio.

Perhaps it would be better if they took the Dragon Quest XI approach for their next titles.
I don't want the Switch to start compromising games, and I hope it is to weak to do so, like the 3DS.

By compromising games, you mean...?
That they lower the standards of the games during development so that it'll work properly on PS4, XBO and Switch?

But it is not. It’s a hybrid, but it was nintendo’s bet for their next home console market. Jeez peope, why it is so hard to understand?

Welp, Dragon Quest XI is starting to collapse. Metroid did better than I thought it would tbh.
