Forums - Gaming - Which "Mature" titles are actually immature?

@ Maxwell )

Obviously you think throwing around some superlatives would make you objective, but uhm.. it just seems so immature. Pretty funny style of argumentation in a thread that is about maturity/immaturity of games.

I didn't play any game of the GoW franchise though, so I can't comment on that, but your text didn't convince me, that your opinion is justified.

@Lafiel
Sorry, haha, been a long day, and people keep talking to me about God of War this and that and it's getting on my nerves, the game is just ok and I try not to let that get to my head even though it did in my last statement but the fact remains it just seems like such a immature and juvenile game.

The comic jokes about one of my points with God of War.

GTA, childrens and teenagers play it.

If a game is immature, it's immature. It doesn't matter what rating is given to it. Just because an M rated game capitalizes on blood or boobs doesn't make it any more immature than a game like Wario Ware. There are plenty of intellectual, stimulating, and mature M rated games out there just like there are plenty of silly, pointless, mind-numbing games that are rated E. The M rating and the word "Mature" don't really mean the same thing in this case.

@maxwell

u cant compare the complexity of a story in a book to one of a videogame, but i don't really want to focus on GOW because that isn't what i am talking about

Sigh...yes, they do. M means Mature. And it means only mature people (deemed 17 and over by the ESRB) should play this game. The content within could be quite immature or it could be mature, that's not what the rating means. It means YOU should be mature because the game contains violence, language or sex.

And that is why I quoted myself.  Because nearly everyone here is missing the goddamn point.

Yes, I know most M games are marketed towards teenagers, and an actual mature adult probably wouldn't even care about some of the immaturites of games such as gratituitous sex, violence, etc, but the fact is, the M rating means the game is meant for mature people...and of course 90% of the population (teens especially) deduce that the game itself is mature because of that.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Whoa old thread I made still really relevant, so many games rely on that M rating, and so many people swear by these "mature" games.

Time for one of my favorite rants...

I like "Mature" games.

I like cussing.

I like sex.

I like violence.

I like blood.

I like titties.

All these things in a video game (well, a good game at any rate) will make me giddy. But I am under no delusion that these are appealing to my mature self. These things are the obsession of immature adolescents lacking the experience to understand what maturity is.

Maturity is responsibility.

Maturity is holding down a job.

Maturity is paying bills.

Maturity is cleaning your home.

Maturity is raising a family.

Maturity is... The Sims.

Maxwell you dirty dirty Necro bumper, don't think I didn't see you!

...

Immature games,
well mostly they put M on them so that kids would buy them and think they are "Real big boys" but here is to list some

1) GTA (Probably most rockstar games)
2) Gears of War
3) Most of the gory games
4) Silly games like Onechambra and bloodrayne
