Games in general would have helped Wii U. They were sparce the consoles entire life cycle. If you like Zelda though, TONS of Zelda on the Wii U.

absolutely, I'm just not convinced that having, My Fitness Vol.8 would've helped much, that shipped had already sailed

Maybe not, but a game as small as Arms may have helped a lot.

"Launch Window" basically means November and December of 2012 for the Wii U and March 2017 for the Switch. The Wii U games above all sold at least half a million at retail. Switch games hve either sold half a million or are likely to do so. Multiplatform games are in italics.

Long Story short, the Switch has the upper hand. The Wii U landscape was barren after launch until summer was well underway, whereas the Switch has had a constant stream of notable first party titles. And although the Wii U was meant to encourage third party support, it doesn't have a major lead in that category. The impact of ZombiU, Monster Hunter, Rayman, and Disney Infinity is roughly on par with Bomberman, Minecraft, Sonic, and Skyrim.

I think you should add Binding of Isaac, Slime San, Puyo Puyo, Sonic Mania, Ultra Street Fighter II, Cave Story + and Shovel Knight to that list. One of the biggest differences between the Switch and the Wii U is that the Switch has good indies from the start. And being able to play those Indies in portable mode arguably makes the Switch versions the best versions out of all the platforms.

They need some more good stuff on the eshop though, and the prices for retro games are way too high on there. I think they should release classic bundles, sell 5-10 games per bundle for maybe 10$ or so, I'd give that a chance.

I wish companies still did things like what Sega and Capcom did with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and Capcom Classics Collection.

If they could just get the internet on the thing, maybe a youtube app and a Netflix app that'd really help the Switch's situation. I really have no use for the thing right now outside of when I want to play Splatoon 2, and that's literally it.

Yeah, Namco also had some classic collection releases. I always used to be these kinds of bundles, and I still do on PC on sites like GOG. It's a terrific for old nerds like me and would really add to the value of the Switch, not to mention it wouldn't be a costly improvement for Nintendo and they have a staggering catalogue of games to choose from.

Yeah, I love them myself. If they were still made I'd definitely get them.

Switch started way stronger than Wii U, without a doubt, but at the same time it's also living off of 2 Wii U games (Zelda and Mario Kart 8).

Also, "a successful crossover game with Ubisoft"?
Isn't that too early to say?

I'm happy how 2017 turned out for Switch/Nintendo. I'm less impressed that half of it's system sellers (Splatoon 2 and Mario, making up for the other half) are ports.

lol @ anyone who said Wii u had a good launch line up.. I got a wii u at launch and only had Nintendo Land and New Super mario Bros U. for a ten month period. Both games were underwhelming(there was only 1 other console that i shall not name that had such a long drought after launch for me) Where as Switch i got 1 month after launch with BOTW Already got Splatoon 2 and getting Mario*rabbids tomorrow

The games were/are there for both consoles, you just picked the ones that you wanted.

People gave the "watered down" Wii U versions a lot of hate, but they ignore the fact that some of those games had exclusive content, included dlc, and additional content in some cases. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition, Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, Need For Speed Most Wanted U, Ninja Gaiden Razors Edge, Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper.

I've got to agree. I loved the WiiU Arkham City and 100% completed it.

You know, we're focusing on the big guns, but one thing I think is also worth noticing is the general drought...according to Nintendo Wiki, Wii U had 0 games in January and February 2013, 6 in March, and only 1 in April. That's a big problem! The launch was fine - 38 games. But after the "new shiny" wears off, only a few of those 38 games remain exciting.*

Quality is also important! Unfortunately, New Super Luigi U and LEGO City Undercover were probably the biggest releases for those first 4 months of 2013.

Meanwhile, Switch's June, July and August lineup look like ARMS, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Mario + Rabbids, Redout, and dozens more. I couldn't find a count of games online, but a quick look at Gamerankings shows there have been at least 10 new games just since August 15.

*Consider this question: If an unknown title like ARMS came out at launch and had to compete with Zelda: BOW, would it have sold more, or less?
