I see a lot of effort from Microsoft in order to catch up with Sony, they try to make more services... and they also update the dashboard a lot. Just not sure about this Xbox X thing.

Sony is not so comfortable as well. They have their share of defects, but the good and old AAAs just keep coming. +PS VR.

And Nintendo just released the Switch with brand new content and the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 is in development.

To sum it up, I think it's a matter of perspective.

If the effort doesn't come in the form of games it's a wasted effort. I see it as a distraction. The console sales aren't helping either. We're seeing that there is a great correlation between monthly sales and exclusive software. If Microsofts offerings do not spike sales next year there will be a serious problem.

If everyone performs well we all win. This is the truth.

Nintendo won. Wii won. Nintendo gamers? Ehh...

Of course it dominated in sales but Wii owners, myself included, suffered from a lack of third party support, online bells and whistles, hardware power, and really just compelling reasons to turn the console on in comparison to the "HD Twins".

By "everyone was winning and everyone was losing" I meant every console fanbase had it's pros and cons. Every fan base had something they could brag about having the best experience with and every fan base was having the worst experience at something. There was balance.

But that's just vauge as fuck, and can be applied to any gen

Jeez. What do you want from me?

NES had a virtual monopoly at one point, Sony has never dominated quite to that degree. I remember a lot of people would just call all video games "Nintendo" at that time and that was common, not just something you heard once in a while.

I like how there's less of a need for Hardware this gen. Last Gen had three home consoles, PC, and two handhelds that all needed to be bought to play all the best games. This gen you can get away with just a Switch and PS4 (once 3DS finishes bowing out of the market). You could also get away with just a PC and Switch.

I don't think there is a monopoly on the video games market. Right now there are three big players, and they each have a niche.

PlayStation is the cheap $200 system, with the most exclusives and best library.

PC is all about cutting edge graphics, cheap games, and customization.

Nintendo owns the handheld market.

There is only so much you can do before it being similar to another thing. So 3rd gen had more "evolution" because it was less evoluted before. Simple as that.

Yes, it was excruciating to see the leader almost tie with 2nd and 3rd... nothing like those silly 5:1, 6:1 or 15:1 PS2 was putting.

Current sales is enough to have Sony worried about MS and not be cucko again.

You must be kidding. If it continue to goes on like that the PS4 would have a 3:1 ratio against the Xbone. They ain't worried in the slighest.

Yes Sony doesn't need to be afraid of being surpassed at this point if things stay stationay, which they never stay, but if they get complacent they can be left behind quite unchalantelly.

You just have to look at first year WiiU sale numbers to see that's not even true. Nintendo did it themselves.

PS4 ko'd Wii U. Without PS4, Wii U would've sold a lot more. Tell yourself what you want

No. Microsoft is so far behind due to their own stupidity and inability to make good worthwhile reasons to purchase their console. They can drown until they actually learn their lesson, which at this rate appears like they won't.

It seems the lessons they learnt are;

Console bussiness isnt worth the effort, so keep the franchises that make lots of money (halo, gears, forza) and slowly try to move everything to the windows store, and get the console gamers there too (steam is very profitable, MS wants to be that).

Multiplayer and games as services, make money for along time, and you can have micro transactions help you turn profits, so everything should just go that way, I mean it only makes sense from a bussiness perspective right? So all games from now on they make, will be like that.

Maybe Im just being a negative nancy, but it really seems that way to me.

Welllll, MS has always been a game dev/publisher, and they decided to enter the console market because they thought that consoles were going to kill the PC. Instead, Mobile took a far bigger chunk out of the PC market, which completely negated MS' original plan (which was to take down Sony, and thereby push users back to PC). History will tell us that what actually happened was that mobile hurt PC MORE than Sony, and Steam was actually the one that began revitalizing PCs.

Meanwhile, MS went deep into the red on xbox, and took all their own games off PC. Now they're trying to go back to PC, but everyone in the PC market is now trying to market windows alternatives....which is what got MS worried about their future in the first place. MS was never about the console market, they were trying to prevent the softening of Windows sales.

MS have enemies on all sides now and garnered themselves a pretty bad image in the process.

What MS needs to do is work on windows. Make deals where they can, sell their games and apps, and focus on profits. Instead of making windows an obvious choice, they're putting a leash around their customers and telling them they have to do what they say, or they don't get new content. The mainstream simply doesn't respond well to that kind of control (unless it's apple).

XB1 and PC would have benefited much more than WiiU.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

That warm fuzzy feeling you get when your console winning a console sales generation is priceless.
