Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 Shipments Reach 63.3 Million, 3.3 million units between April 1 and June 30

Yes. PlayStation systems tend to have strong legs even after their successor releases. And the PS5 isn't coming until around 2020, 2019 at the earliest. So it'll have the rest of this year, plus next year, which is looking like a VERY strong year for the PS4 from the software side, plus 2019 to get there. It still has God of War, Gran Turismo, Last of Us, and Elder Scrolls VI, and GTA VI coming up. It's not a question of "Will it outsell the Wii?" but "By how many units?"

" Sony Corp. posted group-wide net income of $722 million, up 282 percent from the same quarter last year, as the company's turnaround continued to bear fruit. "

Looks like all their divisions are in the black except Sony Pictures, and all of them seem to be earning more than Playstation except Mobile.

You're asking whether a console that sold 63M in 3.5 years has another 40M in it left lol.

^ This explains where they got the money to buy Funimation.

not just that, this is the biggest FY Q1 Sony has ever had in terms of operating profit with 157,6 billion yen

Someone think it won't?

Sales are holding steady in the calm before the storm. Sony has raised the Profit Forecast from 170 to 180 Bln Yen for FY17. Gran Turismo Sport, Spiderman, and God of War all coming out this year should sell extreamly well. An increase in PS+ subscribers, and the price leveling in the EU will help as well. PS Vue gaining access to most Major Local Broadcast by years end, which will make it very easy to transition cable users to the OTT service, giving Sony a huge boost in revenue, while saving consumers $1,000's a year.

Sony now expects G&NS to be the most profitable division in the company, and that gap will only continue to grow from here on out. With that will come the presure to continue to grow from investors. As I have said before, more form factors/devices built on the PlayStation OS and PlayStation Network need to hit the market to continue to drive the growth of the ecosystem. It will be very interesting to see how Sony plans to continue to grow as the reach the limits of the home console market. Simply sustaining the current consumer base will not sit well with share holders, and will damage their turn around.

Overall Q1 was a great success, and shows that Sony can back up its profit projections. All divisions look to have sorted out their issues, and the company looks to be heading towards growth and stability. Decisions made now will determine whether they can continue this for years to come, or if this will just fizzile out. Hopefully, they look to what is succeeding, and try to emulate that across all division of the company.

Wait till PS4 Pro price drop in November, to counter the Xbox One X release. Then you'll see PS4 sales hit 3:1 next year!!

Looking at Sony forecast and expectation for sales, i doubt Sony is going to cut PS4 price. If they cut PS4 price, they will not be able to reach their 1,980  billion yen target of sales.

Also i am sure if they had planned for a price cut then they would have predicted more than 20 million PS4 sales.

Over 1.1m pr month atm?

Yes I do.

By march 2018, it should be around 78m going by their lowball forecasts. Im guessing by then its probably over 80m.

Then it does another 16-18m or so year, and by March 2019, it ll be at 96-98m.

Sometime in 2019, it will have passed the Wii.    <------ (pretty sure about this atm)

So, 63.3 million shipped on June 30th along with 60.4 sold on June 11th. A gap of 2.9 million in 19 days. Hypothetically, let's say it sold 350k in two weeks, plus 300k in 5 days worth of sales, that would be 1.05 million sold, bringing it to 61.45 million, still 1.85 million on the shelf.
Not saying this is the case of course, but I think that the system has got just the right amount of supply at the moment.

The Gold and Silver boosted the sales a ton, its not thay big of a gap

Nearly 2x what the Switch had shipped in that period 1.9 million to 3.3 million
