Forums - Nintendo - Switch is beating Wii U, but behind the original Wii.

The Wii was 80$ less expansive, had a game packed in, was released in holiday season. I'm not sure the Switch could compete with the Wii but it's faring pretty well all things considered.

It had a lesser Zelda game: Twighlight Princess.

It depends how many Nintendo will produce. It could have easily beaten the Wii without supply issues.

Remember, Wii had major supply issues for at least a year. Or if you are too young to remember, look it up.

Uhum, this is true, but you need to keep in mind that this time Nintendo is facing worse problems when manufacturing Switches due to NAND shortages around the world (and even having to "fight" Apple to get more pieces). I'm not saying it would reach Wii's first 4 months numbers without supply issues, but it would be even closer. And that's amazing considering we are not at the holidays.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Im just saying, it could have sold another 1million to reach 6 million and beat the Wii.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Twilight Princess was probably the most hyped game I'd ever seen though. Just look at the E3 2004 reaction it got. Seriously, people forget how big of a deal that game was. Sold like crazy, too.

Wii had no huge seller? Wii had Wii Sports! People weren't buying a Wii, they were buying Wii Sports and the console was lucky enough to tag along. Also Twilight Princess was a big deal.

Yep! Same for me. And im sure majority of the Wii woners do too.

Switch isn't going to sell as well as the Wii, but that's ok. It's going to do very well for Nintendo.

Yup. Many seem to forgot this. Still the highest selling Zelda game ever

How much of a factor even is that though?

For established consoles holiday sales obviously do see a big increase. But for an in demand new console? Wouldn't the fact that it's new, in demand and people have literally had no way to buy it beforehand counteract the fact that it's not the holiday period?

Two different groups of customers. The early adopters and the holiday shoppers. Launch at the end of the year gets both.
