It'll probably sell over 50 million. It's not a failure

Again, X1/X1X primarily needs to maintain current sales.

What we know for certain is major 3rd party and 1st party games are coming. So that and the X1X should help stimulate sales.

People keep saying X1X is a niche product, but I see it as the X1S replacement after a few price cuts.

But if they mantain current sales, there is no way how they could reach X360 sales, unless im mistaken.

Can you please list which major 1st party games are coming?

The OG X1 (including S) after almost 4 years in the market, has managed to lower the price to 250$. By the time the X1X reaches that pricepoint (2021 if it follows the OG footsteps) the Xbox One ecosystem will have +8 years in the market. I honestly dont think it will last that long.

X1 would have to maintain its current sales and have relevance longer than 360. That's possible if we get another X1 in about four years while the X1X keeps getting supported in a 9th gen. It depends on what MS does and if they stay the course with incremental upgrades.

You want me to name major 1st party games coming? I think the obvious answer is numerous sequels, those are major. They have a few games coming relatively soon and Phil claims some new stuff is being developed. But if you wanna pretend no notable 1st party software is happening...

Again, what if MS stays the course with incremental upgrades? Maybe the X1X will be $250 in 2021 while the X1S will no longer be manufactured. The X1X has the specs to be relevant in the 9th gen as a cheap option and playing the same games as an even more powerful Xbox One in 2021. I'm suggesting X1X for $249 and X1X-2 for $499. However, support for the OG X1/X1S is no longer REQUIRED at that point which would be fine after 8 years of support.

Vop here seems to imply that Xbox One sales are disappointing so far. But, sales are in line with the Xbox 360, which was universally considered a success. I'm sure they would love to have sales on PS4 level. But, that doesn't mean the system is a failure.

As for Xbox One X, I don't think anybody expects it to be a massive hit and drive sales that compete with PS4 numbers.

With all of that said, I would not be surprised if we see the end of Xbox consoles, as we've come to know them, sometime in the next decade. I think Microsoft would be happy to see the Xbox become a steam machine type of thing, just more successful.

Xbox 2 or something. They won't be done with hardware if One X fails, apparently they're already working on the nextbox. Which would apparently run against PS5.

Who knows. I honestly don't see it selling very well even during this holiday, i.e. PS4 is still almost guaranteed to remain #1 in the US (WW is a no brainer). $500 with no notable exclusive software is going to hurt it bad. My guess is that MS is simply going to pump out their next gen Xbox in 3 years.

0331 Happiness is a belt-fed weapon

Xbox One X is the last Microsoft console. They are bowing out of the console business and focusing on windows. If any Xbox fans complain about there not being a next gen Xbox, MS will just point to the XB1X, and say that it's the next gen console.

Xbox is still a brand with value in North America. The people where I work only talk about "playing Xbox". It's not like it's irredeemable.

When I remarked on my workplace being Xbox-land, my co-worker said, "Playstation is mostly just sports games." I'm not making that up. When I said something about Playstation having a lot of Japanese games, he just looked at me in confusion. He was probably thinking, "how could I play a game in Japanese, you idiot."

Anyway, that aside, Xbox is another gateway to Microsoft's ecosystem and they're not going to drop it anytime soon.

in all seriousness the Xbox brand is incredible danger at the moment because it doesn't really have much of anything beyond Halo that people distinguish it by

your coworkers are the exception. If there's any one particular reason the Xbox still sells fairly well in the USA, it's because a lot of people in the States are going to feel automatically obligated to buy the system because it's A) from an American company and B) from an American company named Microsoft

the Microsoft name is why the Xbox brand sells at this point, bear in mind the Windows OS is the vast majority of computers worldwide still so it pulls a strong weight to casual consumers picking up a system.

but for merits on its own, outside of it's parent being an American giant corporation, I'm not sure what the Xbox has these days

seems suicidal to me that Microsoft would make the decision to put hypothetically huge system sellers like Minecraft on the PC and multiplat, but what do I know. The team at Xbox still seems focused on some sort of end goal of bringing the Xbox closer to the computer market, probably in some long term ploy to make video gaming get more connected with Windows (which in all honestly is the company's bread and butter for making money, that and it's other PC software and programs)

They finally buy SEGA and we get Dreamcast 2.

in all seriousness that's actually a really interesting concept because there is definitely still a Sega movement. The regular comments of "Sega make a Dreamcast 2" are silly because Sega/Sammy doesn't really have the resources to do so at this point in time, but under Microsoft? Would give them a number of IPs to work with too and then there's Atlus

obviously there's no way that happens though but definitely an interesting idea. Microsoft is fairly careful with their acquisitions though, despite their size. I honestly think a Capcom or Sega would be interesting to see absorbed to bolster their game library

but based on Microsoft's recent decisions (ala Minecraft not exclusive) it doesn't seem their tactic at this point in time is about the game library exclusives anyway

If X1/X1X can maintain 7-8 million units a year, then they should just stay the course.

At some that could achieve the 360 userbase.

zero chance of that happening, even hitting 50 million his somewhat doubtful at the current pace unless you expect the current console generation to last an extremely long time (like 202x) and honestly think Microsoft wouldn't update a struggling system.  Which, by all accounts, the Xbox One X will likely be
