Vop here seems to imply that Xbox One sales are disappointing so far. But, sales are in line with the Xbox 360, which was universally considered a success. I'm sure they would love to have sales on PS4 level. But, that doesn't mean the system is a failure.
As for Xbox One X, I don't think anybody expects it to be a massive hit and drive sales that compete with PS4 numbers.
With all of that said, I would not be surprised if we see the end of Xbox consoles, as we've come to know them, sometime in the next decade. I think Microsoft would be happy to see the Xbox become a steam machine type of thing, just more successful.
