Forums - Gaming Discussion - Could Apple or Nintendo make VR mainstream?

VR will gain massive ground when things like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Madden, and such go VR exclusive. Apple making VR productivity/Development software, and Nintendo making its IP VR exclusive will help move the needle as well.

VR going mainstream is just a matter of the tech advancing to the point where no one gets motion sick, and the price dropping to the point where everyone can afford it.

The unlimited scope of VR will ensure its eventual success. If your thing is multiplayer, VR will take that to incredible new levels, unisolating the online gamer from the world around them. If you love getting completely lost in a single player expereince, VR has the ability to completely isolate you from the outside world. If you enjoy playing with family and friends, VR/AR will eventually allow you all to transport yourselves to whatever expereince you would like, whether you are all in the same room, or a million miles away.

So.... never then.

Because Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Madden etc. will never go VR Exclusive. Ever.

No.

VR won't be mainstream until a lot of big changes are made to the hardware. We're talking about really expensive and cutting edge technology.

Nintendo is not about cutting edge, not anymore, they are more about how to make a simple but innovative technology into a gameplay idea. VR is too complexe.

Apple is not investing into anything innovative anymore.

So no, I don't see any of them making VR popular.

Apple is investing in AR, not with headsets at first but it can be used for headsets too

I don't know about Nintendo. maybe some day.

Standalone headsets are already on the way, $200 OR next year.

VR is growing with lots of investments everywhere

Does this look like dead tech

I thought we were talking about real VR with a headset. Yeah, if it's small VR like what samsung does, sure maybe Apple could do it too. Nintendo it's more tricky, well because the Switch is not an iphone 7, so they would need to create a new hardware to support VR.

As for the rest of your stuffs, yeah that's more like it. Oculus and Vive seems to really have big plans that might work. VR could become insteresting.

ha only way anyone would get me to touch VR is if it doesn't require them huge ass goggles/headsets. And while what I say is anecdotal every single person I have showed VR to said the same thing "I'm not putting those big ugly things on my head"

Let's see here, judging by the specs alone to run a decent a good VR headset, Nintendo would pump out VR with potato like graphics.

And if Apple decided to follow the Gear VR method, there's would look like crap too since the Iphone 7 was their first release of a 1080p screen. Even on the Galaxy's 1440p screen, Gear VR looks bad, I don't have a single doubt in my mind that if Apple made VR, it would either be too expensive, or it would be the worst VR iteration we got.

I agree, Nintendo's insistence on cheaper hardware is a limiting factor.

Perhaps it's due to bad graphics because that resolution is better than the Vive and Rift. Apple would only have to make a head set dock for the phone to slip in, I don't see why they would charge more than Samsung for it, so it should be in the region of $100.

Sales prediction, PS4: 122 Million, Xbox one: 50 million, Switch: 105 million.

They will charge more because it says Apple. They will also hype it like it is the first of its kind and revolutionary.

Technology is still not there... we need smaller lighter glasses with wireless connection etc. Maybe in three years we will be there.
