What? The very purpose of freedom of expression is to have the right to insult people without being punished for it.

You don't have the right to insult people, that's called harrasment and is punishable by law, you are allowed however to do things that offend people.

English isn't my main language but isn't"insult" a synonym to "offend"? And she offended people, she didn't harass anyone, so you agree she shouldn't be punished in any way?

She is breaking a law and hiding behind freedom of expression and basically exploiting constitutional rights. It's the same as if someone from another country kills someone and claims diplimatic immunity.

Yes, she should be punished.

This is why nationalism is bad. You get a bunch of fucking losers who're proud of where they're born. Then they'll get mad when people think their place is shit. It's like, dude, we get it, your mom popped you out of her vagina on this piece of land, it isn't special XD I say piss on the flag all she wants. It's just a flag

You're not a true patriot until you have an American flag, made from American nylon and dyes produced from American oil and petrochemicals. Made by US born workers whose families have lived there for at least 3 generations with multiple US veterans in their family. Made at a company that is soley run on American funds and soil and has been operating in the US since 1776 or earlier.

Ofcourse you also need a solid flag pole made of American harvested wood. Raise the flag briskly every morning at dawn and lower it slowly at dusk without it ever touching the ground. Have a second person standing by to receive the flag with open arms and fold it neatly for the next day. This will ensure your commitment to freedom.

Because national pride is a bad thing?....

Not as long as it doesn't lead to unproductive behavior as condemning people with 'lesser' flags, wanting to deport people that don't share your pride or worse. The whole better than thou attitude leads to most of our modern issues.

Hilarious how people hold a flag that was made in China to such a high extent. Nationalism is one of the worst things in the world, especially nationalism in the USA.

But then the issue arises that what can be interpreted as harassment. Can specifically calling out someone as an idiot be considered harassment because you specifaclly targeted the person, and if this could be considered harassment, would there be any justifiable context to say calling someone an idiot is the right thing to do? Harassment is a never ending issue because everyone has a different definition. Whereas the lady is said she's being harassed for peeing on a flag, some feel harassed in a sense that she basically insulted the country they hold dear to them. Both responses on both sides are wrong to me, but that's why these issues always arise.

Me personally, I'm fine with nearly any free speech as long as it doesn't incite violence (example being Kathy Griffin). If it DOES promote violence against the other side, I have a problem with it.

What are you even talking about?? What law has she broken? And you can't "hide" behind your rights, they are your rights and should be used as often as possible. Your arguments are more fitting to a totalitarian state where critisiscm of the government isn't tolerated.

So you oppose freedom of speech then? Or what do you mean when you say she should face to consequences for expressing her views?

She should accept the hate.

Not if there are death threats since they are factually illegal to make.

The flag protection act of 1989, and the freedom of expression only loosely applies and could be argued what she done doesn't fall under that

So what happens if the kid above pees his pants?
