Does Sony or microsoft do this though? Not unless it's a big indie title like Shovel Knight. New'n'Tastey is a late indie remake of a nearly 2 decades old game. I don't know what kind of promotion he was expecting. Like Rocket League is releasing late on the Switch, but Nintendo sure is promoting that.

They do. I regurarly check their fb page, their youtube channel and even their blog; indies, even small ones, get a ton of promotion.Even games that shouldn't be on psn in the first place.

For late ports of indie games that were first available on other console platforms? Nintendo promotes indies all the time too, but I've never seen any of the big 3 bend over backwards for late console ports.

New N Tastey had three videos on Nintendo's Youtube btw, so what he's expecting in terms of promotion clearly superceeds just that.

I'm not really sure what to make of Lanning's comments, since I don't know if they're true or not, but I don't think Nintendo does little to promote indie titles. I've seen great support from Nintendo several times, regarding indie titles. I keep on seeing so many of them on youtube, directs, and events. So that part just seems wrong to me.

The rest just seems to be his thoughts on certain matters, so they don't matter much to me. Also, using cards for a portable system seems like a better idea than CDs. Unless they did GC style ones, CDs aren't gonna fit in that thing.

According to vgchartz 68 out of the Wii's top 100 best selling games were third party titles. So...

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=&publisher=&platform=Wii&genre=&minSales=0&results=200

Look at the top50:

top10 = 9 nintendo games + just dance.

top11-20 = just dance, sonic & mario (sega), zumba fitness.

top21-30 = Lego Starwars, Guitar hero, mario & sonic (sega), EA sporst active.

top31-40 = mario & sonic, guitar hero, lego batman,

top 41-50 = skylanders, sonic & rings, Lego hary potter.

Not 1 3rd party AAA game really, in the top50.

Which shouldn't matter to an indie developer (the guy making the comments.)

Not really, I understand if big AAA games need more time because of the hardware. But indie games like oddworld should be there day one if they really want that free promotion, it's an incentive. But if Nintendo receives the last port then what's the point of promoting a niche indie game that you can play everywhere. That's not good business. I don't like that "we're indie so please understand" mentality.

That's the joke right?, please tell me you're being funny because that's what we get from Nintendo, that's what we got in the form of excuses from both the company and fans who turned "please understand" into a joke of a meme.

I aboslutely dislike that mentality from both sides tbh.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Well, recent events suggest that he is blatantly incorrect about the whole day-2-date rule, as Nintendo have been showcasing plenty of Indies big and small that released much earlier on other platforms. I actually doubt that's a policy that Nintendo has ever had, Tbh. So far developers seem to be having very little issue with porting their games to Switch, so there's that.

Oh, and his comment about cartridges is so stupid as to not warrant a response. Same with that bullshit about 3rd parties not making money on the wii, unless you have a very narrow view of what qualifies as third party.

So, you actually think that all these 3rd party developers who don't make games for Ninty systems are at wrong and not the fans who defend Ninty and disregard reports of the developers. I find it highly unlikely that so many of them are wrong and fans are wiser than all of them.

Obviously this doesn't count for the guy, because:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6h9KI_2O6s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfpLmYiOFJI

That are Nintendo channels right there. So if you count Youtube, FB, you should compare to what the reality is, because obviously these videos didn't count as advertising for Lorne Lanning.

Because that would mean people can't blame Nintendo for anything and people don't like to do that. Especially even to a point to just take two seconds to even be sure that what they are blaming and accusing Nintendo for is even true or not.

Because that's NOT Nintendo's job. Nintendo put out trailers of the game and I'm sure put out a weekly newsletter about what games were available that week. What else can they want from them? A paid commercial on primetime TV? For PSN you see highlights just like Wii U eShop. Games that aren't highlited are at least mentioned in some form or fashion. And this is ONE GUY. Nintendo does Nindies stuff all the time and other games have succeeded on the eShop. He's just salty because Oddworld isn't what Nintendo fans want. We saw it, we didn't want it.

Yes, everybody wants more money. All companies want to make more money, the issue is, it isn't Nintendo's job to make money for you. They can only do so much. Yeah, a sale on a Nintendo platform is a sale for Nintendo and the game developer but to put all the blame on Nintendo and not acknowledging that their software isn't appealing to Wii U's install base, it's just stupid.

I don't know what Sony did compared to what NInty did but for them to complain about one company and not the other, they must have a reason.

I'm inclined to believe the people who actually invested money in this rather than fans who tend to defend anything their company does (not you, at least you question the validity of some points instead of rejecting everything).

As for your point, if Ninty doesn't try to accommodate their needs to some extent because "it ain't their job", they can keep having shitty 3rd party support. Sony obviously knows better in that regard.
It's how business works. It may not be your job to do x, but the client or seller can choose a more lucrative deal.

Well, if I was worth more than Sony and had shitty 3rd party support I'd be okay with that. And again, you have to be careful when choosing what titles are on Nintendo platforms. You can't just release anything on Nintendo and expect it to sell, now THATS not how business works. You have to do your own research and development. You never hear Rennegade kid, Wayforward, etc. whining about Nintendo because they have affinity with Nintendo. They create the type of games that Nintendo is known for and it's familiar to the Nintendo fanbase. If I was giving a speech to some vegans about how good beef and chicken are, and how they should eat it, wouldn't that be a waste of time? They'd want to hear about vegan foods, benefits, etc. I know it's a dumb analogy but it works, speak to your base. Don't expect to drop something on Nintendo and have it sell, especially on a console with 13 million users.

This dude is being an ass.

The Switch isn't powerful. How the hell is that Nintendo's fault? It's a hybrid which is still powerful considering the fact that it's $300 and a slim 6.2 inch device. The comment about Iwata's death is tasteless too.
