Forums - Microsoft - MS responds about lack of AAA exclusives at E3

I was the fastest selling XBLA game it's first week and it took a while to hit 2 million but those sales came from word of mouth alone so that pretty good.

Considering that this game is getting multiplayer a bigger budget and is coming out early next year so it won't have much competition it could do very well.

Fair enough then, I didn't know that. That's pretty odd, I was a big Xbox fan in 2013/2014. Surprise I didn't notice it.

You make a good case for State of Decay, although again a lot of Microsoft's smaller IPs and even bigger ones have undertracked.

I can't agree with you on Sea of Thieves though. It doesn't look like a high budget title, it's marketing won't be that big outside of Microsoft events, and Quantum Break and Halo Wars 2 had pretty massive marketing pushes, both flopped heavily. Recore had a similar marketing to Sea of Thieves and that also flopped.

I'm not saying those games won't be successful or that I want them to flop. Frankily I think it's cool to see Microsoft branching in interesting directions by taking AA games and advertising them as system sellers. If it were any other company it would show that they have faith in new ideas, but it's Microsoft, so it really just shows they have little to fall back on. I like the modest, quirky concept approach, but most of the games that fit that category look generally unimpressive. Sea of Thieves could be cool, it just doesn't look that interesting. Playstation seems to have a really great handle on AA games, or at least niche AAA titles. I hope Sea of Thieves gets a lot of money though. Because Rare <3

After all those summer of arcades SoT was like the last big XBLA game.

Microsoft is going to have to do things differently next generation. They just come off as a me too system to Sony and if they continue to struggle or get worse then I can see the corporate heads just giving up like they've done in so many other markets they joined in too late.

I just want to play Cuphead and Ori.

You know MS make money on Cuphead being brought on Steam right? You know its also MS decision to allow it on Steam.

What about Console only gamers who dont own a PC and want a PC?

Exactly.

I mean, its not like they can get their hands on Starcraft or anything. LOL Steam is the primary representative for PC gaming, so a Steambox would be the most accurate choice even though it wasnt the most successful. I think Microsoft wants to accomplish what Steam has accomplished on PC, but they have to excel in one place (which tthey haven't) before they spread themselves too thin.

Try convincing the public to buy a Steam machine over an Xbox to play Cuphead.

Steam Machines is not what Console only gamers want. The Xbox does a better job being a Steam Machine. Play Anywhere and the big hitting 1st party title games from Xbox dont cross to Steam *cough Horizon 3*

Isnt the argument about playing Exclusives yet you recommand a Steam Machine which has rarely any 1st party exclusives... aside from Valves 10 year old games?

Interesting.

What's funny is Cuphead isn't even an Xbox One/Windows Store exclusive, it's also on Steam, so outside of Microsoft's eco-system.

Greenberg is really something.

Exactly.

Are you sure about that?  As far as I know this game is developed AND published by StudioMDHR Entertainment.  Hell, when whatever deal they have with MS is up, there's a good shot that it is coming to PS4.

It's no longer timed, MS bought full lifetime exclusivity a few years back after the positive reception when it was revealed.

We are 99.9% sure that we will be on Mac (it's a priority!) - but probably not right at launch. It is an Xbox One exclusive, so it won't be coming out on PS4!

Sequels could come to PS4 potentially, since StudioMDHR owns the IP, but not the first game.

I'm sure that just means the original game, as in as is.  Nothing a Special Edition couldn't potentially take care of.  Though, even if that doesn't happen I'm sure we'll see a PS5 release around launch.  It happened to quite a few of 360 indie exclusives this gen.

For now, at least I'll have Steam and GOG if I don't want to wait a year or two.  And my point still stands about MS not seeing anything from Steam and GOG releases, as they are not publishing the game on those platforms.  MS just wanted to keep it away from the PS4.

Nice spin, many of the games they showed would actually be releasing in 2 years or over since they were first revealed. (Crackdown 3, Cuphead, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2)

But You are right, they should all be releasing before next years E3.

Yes, Sony Have done the same, but Horizon DLC, Uncharted Lost Legacy, God Of War, Spiderman, Gran Turismo Sport, Knack 2 are all releasing before next year's E3 as well.

Days Gone and Detroit are probably Q3 and Q4 2018 though.

It's just diehard Xbox fans jumping on and trying to spread whatever BS MS tells them to spew, even though it's not true.  Just like the whole "Sony just shows games that are going to release 2 years from now, while MS shows games coming soon."  Of course, this post here completely disproves it, but that won't stop them from spewing it if MS wants them to.

Forza games already shows Microsoft release games soon rather than later, I guess that makes you the one that is spreading BS.

I know that the steam box wouldn't be the console of choice. I predicted that it would be doa because people don't want all of the choices higher tier PC gaming comes with. No offense though , but this is steam we're talking about though. If valve wanted to stick it to micorsoft they could beat them over the head with exclusives. Microsoft isn't a tough opponent to beat convincingly with exclusives. What micorsoft does is they make a nice operating system with features and they survive of fun of that and multiplats.

as for cuphead, I'll be getting it day one but werw talking a former boss battle side scroller. I don't think that game was made for Most casuals unless micorsoft told them to change it. It's going to be mostly the hardcore buying that for sure just like nex machina on PlayStation and PC.
