Btb, I just ... Finished Xenoblade Chronicles X original main story (no extra chapters done) and despite knowing of the content and spoilers that were ahead, I fully understand now the reaction that people had when they saw it back then ...

And how infuriating that shit must've been to wait out for years to have chance to get some answers or closure back in this case.
Story wise, it's a such a low mix for most of the run time really with barely anytime to really build up on its concepts introduced early on. (Or moreso the lack of them)
Last 2 chapters arrive and the game finally wakes up from it's lethargy and decides to get on what makes Xeno games narrative so interesting, philosophical debates on the nature of humanity, relations, life n death contextualized in a cool fantasy/Sci-fi setting.

Once again, a game in the Xeno series that refuses to get it's best hooks early on and relate most of the better content(arguably) for the later portion of it's game. Which I like games with this approach better honestly.

I could talk about the Open World and it's brilliant design, the quests system which is where "JRPG's side quest can be good" began, especially the more you do and opens more interesting longer quest-chains in the latter portion of the game.
But I'll reserve some thoughts until I'm completely thorough with the game.

Spoiler!
The ending actually made things worse. The whole game is about making a new life on Mira then it's like "ok now time to go somewhere else". Oh, and this random dude is now the main character.

@JWeinCom

I'd argue the choice of doing so to set up a sequel is more beneficial than staying in the same environments for another game really. Not a choice we have to like really but one I understand.

Anyway, the new character was likely the one speculated to be a major part of the previous story structure, so repurposing him as such isn't really a bother, unless you're REALLY into the avatar shtick they've got going here.

He also adds a good amount of characterization for Elma, early on, from what I saw. Sorely needed because her lack of characterization is one of the bad aspects of the original release. Haven't finished it yet of course, so let's see how that opinion shapes up to be by the end ...

I don't have an issue with the character being added. But, after 10 years or so of waiting, I kind of would rather that the added content not focus on him almost exclusively. He kind of chews up the scenery at every possible moment.

As for setting up a sequel... I think they could have done that without making more or less everything you'd done pointless. I think that even if you hadn't played the original game, you would recognize that the last part didn't gel with the rest of the game. It wasn't that it was bad when viewed on its own, but pulling a sharp left turn at the last moment to set up a sequel is not a good choice imo. Especially when people had been waiting so long for just this.

So online on MKW has been flooded with people picking random, because they don't want to do the drive-between courses. So what's Nintendo's response to people overwhelmingly wanting traditional 3 lap races?

They patch the game so when you pick random it now only chooses from the 3 options given, which are overwhelmingly drive-between races. Lmao. The people spoke and Nintendo said no, your opinion doesn't matter we're going to force you to do the drive-between with this patch lmao. Nintendo is so stubborn.

Personally I don't hate them, but I'd like the races with in-between sections to only be 25-40% of the time, not nearly every race.

That's putting it very mildly.

That's not true it actually still picks random tracks it just adjusted a bug that had it always pick three lap races, the races were people want 3 laps are also the current higher elo who are mostly the same higher elo players from MK8D, a lot of them picked random to force 3 lap races so they can continue their attempts of migrating tricks from the prior game to MKW that's why they're up in arms over the patch the game itself for everyone else is fine. Nintendo will probably add a mode for those who want the classic 3 lap structure.

I would prefer seeing it in Prime 4 first.
