I like the games, but the company not as much. They have had some horrible PR in the past, have blatantly ripped from Nintendo's successes, and made industry moves specifically to destroy Nintendo. MS, on the other hand, would love to buy Nintendo and has maintained a much friendlier and healthier relationship with them, especially for the industry. MS has other problems though, but I at least respect how they have handle Nintendo and vice versa. Having said all that, Sony has been much much better this generation in how they approach their competition and what they offer their customers, and I think consumers and others in the industry have taken notice.

Sony doesn't want to destroy Nintendo. Nintnendo was using Sony employees behind their back and Sony tried to make a business relationship. When Nintendo read the contract at Ces for the super nes add on they walked out on Sony. Nintnedo is like that with third party and have a history of doing that. Sony was going to write off the gaming industry but the guy who nintnedo was using to make the snes cd convinced Sony to salvage the project and go head to head with nintnedo and thus the PlayStation was born.

My comment is more about later moves such as when they decided to enter the handheld market. Sure, it is the right of every company to release product and try something new, but at the time, the Sony/Nintendo relationship could not have been more at odds. Sony was becoming extremely arrogant off the huge success of PS2, much like Yamauchi was with the success of NES and SNES, and the GCN, after having lost tons of 3rd party support to PS2 and Xbox in a continuation of the 3rd party migration from the N64 days, was showing obvious signs that Nintendo was in decline. The only thing keeping Nintendo strong was the handheld market and everyone knew that. GBA was a beast. Sony wasn't satisfied with just the main console market. They wanted it all at one of Nintendo's weakest moments. This was after and before copying many of the innovations Nintendo introduced to gaming and before a lot of their PR blunders and arrogant statements with PS3. Thankfully, just as Nintendo has shown they love to do, Nintendo used their experience in gaming and the industry position they hold to throw a curveball with the DS, showing yet again that Nintendo is an industry invigorator.
Ken Kutaragi was either a big part of these Sony tactics or his departure was just a sign of a new direction. But since then, Sony has almost completely turned their PR and business approach around, however I'm reserving my thoughts on their new position until I see more evidence of a change. I still fully expect them to release a PlayStation Switch next year in an attempt to take Nintendo's lucrative, and hard earned, industry niche away, a potential to kill Nintendo and begin the last chapter in what has been a beloved industry built on the invigorating way that Nintendo innovates.
