Forums - Nintendo - Motion controls making a comeback?

Quite possible I have to say. I use motion controls exclusively in ARMs and prefer it to a regular controller. Depends on the game and how it is utilized I guess.

I guess having the best of both worlds goes beyond the notion of handheld and console!

Nintendo has rebranding it quite a bit. Its a lot more subtle now and mixes in well with rumble features, so i think as long as it stays within that realm it can be a good thing

I have never liked motion control in any game personally so I certainly hope not lol

I think motion controls made a comeback due to VR's at least initial popularity. VR relies on motion controls due to the nature of VR games to immerse yourself in each game. Really if Switch was a tad smaller with a higher res screen, you could say the Switch is part VR console as well without the head mount included, athough I believe the screen itself lacks a gyro sensor which would cause an issue.

Since Switch doesn't do VR, I suspect the resurgence of motion controls on Switch would have happened regardless of VR.

Splatoon did it right. I just wish the gyro was built into the pro controller.

You're in luck; the Switch Pro Controller had a gyro and Splatoon 2 supports it. ;)

I don't use motion controls much except for a few exceptions, and with games like Splatoon, it's really nice to have

Probably will stick with traditional controls for the most part, so as long as the option is there, then I'm fine with it

Speaking of which, I really hope Metroid Prime 4 has the option of gyro aiming. After the fluid and precise pointer aiming of Prime 3, going back to dual analogue would be a step down in my opinion.

Motion controls are definitly rising up again thanks to VR and Switch. I am so glad we are finally starting to make progress again. The first 3 years of this generation were a dud. After having fun new concepts on Wii, PS Move, and Kinect, this gen was back to basic old controller tech, and I really didn't like it.

I hope that as VR Controllers, and Switches continue to sell, we will see more motion based games in all generes and types. As great as Motion is in PSVR games, I would love to have a Sports Champions game for PS4, that can quickly and easily be enjoyed by a group of people.

I think it is very good for the industry to have motion controls back on the major console platforms. Many people still come and ask me if there are any new games like Wii Play, Wii Sports, Sports Champions, or Kinect like titles. The casual audience really enjoyed these types of games, and they have been let down so far this gen. Hopefully as the consoles drop to $199.99 or less, and the motion based games libraries grow, we will see the return of the crowd that pushed Wii to such heights.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Amen dude, I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Gaming as a whole really slumped in my view from 2012-2016, it just seemed so play-it-safe after the more experimental and exciting 7th gen. Thankfully things seem to be looking up again.

No, but the guys in charge don't seem to be able to accept that they're dead. As long as there are regular controls, I'm fine though. The problem is when they force it like in some of the shrines in BOTW. Here I am, totally immersed, lost in the greatness of one of the best games of all time and I'm fucking flailing away in the air with my pro controller like a special needs patient, trying to hit a ball with a motion controlled hammer.

Motion controls=ass.

What do you guys reckon, could motion be seeing a renaissance on the Switch?

I've been in love for great motion controlling since No More Heroes, so I surely hope so.
