Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo business model is bad for gamers

Arms is safe? Splatoon is safe? Cel-shaded Link is safe? First-Person Metroid is safe? Nintendo takes huge risks with its IPs and with its hardware. Ever heard of that really safe bet called the WiiU? Or the Wii for that matter? These are bold risks that the company continues to take...and Nintendo fans don't just buy it because they slap a logo on it. Nintendo fans are fickle and have high expectations. We'll show up in droves if you give us a good game...and we'll forget you exist if you don't. But keep on keeping on with the victim mentality now that Nintendo is riding a good press wave.

Hot damn, well said.

The best trick is that they sold a handheld with a home console price...

This thread made me want to buy a third Switch, thanks.

I only agree with the title

it is bad for gamers, because most gamers have to spend double the money on buying two consoles since with Nintendo it is impossible to have the whole pie...

it could even be a deal between the big three and the 3rd parties, in order to increase consumer spending on gaming, since millions of gamers are forced to spend at least $200 more per gen

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

So am I missing the point... or is your argument really that Nintendo being successful without relying on western AAA studios is a bad thing for gaming?

Gamers aren't forced to do anything.  We like the hobby...and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than watching the new Marvel installment plus popcorn, a soda, and some fricking milk duds at the theater.  Or you can be like the new generation and just pirate everything and not spend a dime.

Nintendo offers us gamers who don't really want to exist in the bro ecosystem an opportunity to play games that aren't afraid to be cute and colorful.  There was a time when Sony catered to this audience (PS1 and PS2 era)...but that pesky Microsft pushed their HD cousin into a more "mature" audience and only recently has Sony even tried looking back.

We need all 3!  Nintendo to pull Sony one way, Microsoft to pull them the other.  Get in where you fit in, support your console of choice, and be happy that these companies only true desire is to entertain the crap out of you.

Well Sony's Jim Ryan doesn't think like that.

I am forced to buy two consoles, indirectly of course, since only 50% of the games I play are on Nintendo consoles

I just support the statement that Nintendo's "let's repel the 3rd parties" business model is not doing me and many people's wallets any good

on what hobbies people spend money is another story, but I agree with all the rest, all three companies are great at what they do

No one's forcing anyone to buy anything, it's a competition and consumers buy whatever's fit for them.

This .... feels like  a troll thread....
